I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to 20 ON WOODLANDS, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this tucked-away spot in Woodmead. You know how some places look great online but then… well, don’t? This wasn’t one of those situations. Actually, stepping into the lobby, I immediately got that “oh, this is nice” feeling you hope for but don’t always get.

What really struck me about this four-star property is how it manages to feel both upscale and genuinely welcoming – and I mean that in the best possible way. The staff actually seemed happy to see guests, not just going through the motions. My room had this clean, contemporary vibe without being sterile, and honestly, the attention to detail was impressive. Little things like proper blackout curtains (thank goodness), a bathroom that actually had decent water pressure, and – this might sound silly – but towels that were genuinely fluffy, not those thin hotel towels that barely dry anything.

The location in Woodmead is actually pretty clever if you think about it. You’re close enough to Sandton’s business district that you won’t spend your life in traffic, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the constant city noise and chaos. I could walk to a few decent restaurants nearby, and there’s proper parking – which, let’s be real, matters a lot in Johannesburg. The area feels safe and well-maintained, especially around Woodlands Crescent where everything’s nicely landscaped. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night; you can actually sleep without earplugs, which is saying something for this part of the world. The breakfast was surprisingly good too – not just the standard hotel buffet stuff, but actual quality food that felt fresh. I mean, the coffee alone made my mornings so much better than I expected. If you’re looking for somewhere that hits that sweet spot between professional and personal, this place genuinely delivers on both fronts.
