When I first pulled up to 27 Musilis in Johannesburg, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star guesthouse tucked away on a quiet residential street in Randburg. The property sits behind secure gates — which, let’s be real, is exactly what you want in this part of South Africa. What struck me immediately was how peaceful everything felt once you’re inside the grounds. The parking is right there on-site and completely free, which might not sound like a big deal until you’ve tried finding secure parking elsewhere in Joburg.

You know what I love about this location? It’s that sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything but far enough from the chaos. Randburg gives you easy access to Sandton’s business district — maybe a 15-minute drive depending on traffic — but you’re staying in an actual neighborhood where people live. The Cresta Shopping Centre is practically around the corner, and if you need to get to OR Tambo Airport, you’re looking at about 45 minutes without the stress of navigating through the city center. Couples seem to really get this balance, and I can see why the rating for romantic getaways is so high here.

The Room Experience

My room was honestly better than I expected for a guesthouse. The space felt more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s place than a typical hotel — there’s character here that you just don’t get in chain properties. The bed was properly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had that satisfying hot water pressure you hope for but don’t always get. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, enough outlets for all your devices, and blackout curtains that actually work.

Daily Rhythms

Breakfast happens in a communal dining area that feels relaxed rather than rushed. The staff — and there aren’t too many of them, which keeps things personal — seem to actually remember your preferences after a day or two. I mean, it’s not a massive buffet situation, but honestly, that works better here. The food is solid, local ingredients when possible, and they’ll accommodate dietary restrictions if you give them a heads up. The whole morning routine just feels… easy, I guess.

  Exceptional. Literally. The place was clean, comfortable and I felt very safe. My friend and I stayed here during comic con and there was nothing better than coming home after a long day to the soft beds and the cool interior of the house. Everyone was so kind, accommodating and polite. One of the best stays ever I will definitely be coming back here again 😁

  A wonderful accomodation it is, more beautiful than shown in the pictures, staffs readily on hand to assist should there be need, and what everything was set in place….
