I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to 27A on Angus, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this tucked-away spot in Bedfordview. It’s one of those places you’d drive right past if you weren’t looking for it, sitting quietly on Angus Road in what feels like a residential neighborhood that somehow morphs into something more sophisticated. But you know what? That’s actually part of its charm.

This four-star boutique property has this really lovely intimate feel – I mean, it’s not one of those massive hotel complexes where you feel like just another room number. The owner clearly put thought into every corner, and you can tell they actually care about the guest experience. The rooms have this modern South African aesthetic that doesn’t try too hard, with clean lines and warm touches that make you want to kick off your shoes immediately. What really got me was the attention to detail – proper coffee (not that instant stuff), quality linens that actually feel good, and bathrooms where everything works properly. You’d be surprised how rare that combination is, even in Johannesburg.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to be close to the action without being in the thick of it. Bedfordview has this great neighborhood vibe – you’re maybe fifteen minutes from OR Tambo when traffic’s decent, and you can easily get to Sandton or the CBD without the hassle of staying right in the center. There’s a Woolworths just down the road if you need to grab anything, and some solid restaurants within walking distance. I actually loved being able to take an evening stroll around the area – it feels safe and residential, which is something you really appreciate after a long day of meetings or sightseeing. The staff seem to genuinely know the area too, not just the standard tourist spots, so they’ll point you toward that little coffee shop locals actually use or the best route to avoid traffic during rush hour. Parking‘s straightforward, which – let’s face it – matters a lot in Jo’burg. The whole experience just feels more personal than what you’d get at the big chain places, and with ratings consistently hitting 8.9 out of 10 from other guests, I’m clearly not the only one who thinks they’re onto something special here.

• Lovely, safe accomodation located at a walking distance from East gate mall – Bolao from Lesotho – October 2, 2024 (9/10)

  The location was easy to find from host’s directions; no delays upon check in. The upgraded room was pleasantly clean; with enough complementary drinking water bottles. They also placed rusks and muesli in the room for breakfast (with milk). Mavis was friendly and helpful as a host.
