59 on Central Overview
First Impressions
Walking into 59 on Central feels like discovering one of those well-kept secrets that locals don’t really want to share. This four-star boutique hotel sits right on Central Avenue in Sandton, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has this understated elegance — not flashy, but you can tell someone put real thought into every detail. I mean, when couples are rating the location 9.5 out of 10, you know there’s something special happening here.
The Sandton Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in Johannesburg’s Sandton district — you’re essentially in the financial heart of the city, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or corporate. From 59 on Central, you can walk to Nelson Mandela Square in about ten minutes, and the Gautrain station is close enough that getting to OR Tambo Airport is actually painless. The parking situation is fantastic too, which anyone who’s driven in Joburg will tell you is no small thing. They’ve got free private spots on site, so you’re not circling blocks or feeding meters.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was what I’d call thoughtfully modern — clean lines, good lighting, and a bed that actually let me sleep through the night despite the jet lag. You know what impressed me most? The attention to small details. The bathroom amenities weren’t generic hotel stuff, and there’s proper blackout curtains that actually work. The air conditioning runs quietly, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong. Each apartment-style unit feels more like a well-designed city flat than a typical hotel room.
Dining and Amenities
The on-site restaurant serves solid contemporary cuisine with some nice South African touches — nothing too fancy, but the kind of food that hits the spot after a long day of meetings or sightseeing. What really works here is the relaxed atmosphere; it’s the sort of place where you can grab a quick breakfast or settle in for a proper dinner without feeling rushed. The staff seems to genuinely care about what they’re doing, which makes a bigger difference than you might think.
Why Guests Love It
Look, 59 on Central isn’t trying to be the flashiest hotel in Sandton, and that’s exactly why it works so well. The 8.7 guest rating reflects what you actually experience — consistent quality, a prime location that puts you right where you want to be, and service that feels personal rather than scripted. Couples especially seem to appreciate the intimate scale and the fact that you can walk to excellent restaurants, shopping, and business centers without dealing with Johannesburg traffic. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere special, but without the pretension that sometimes comes with that territory.
To book hotel in Johannesburg for art fairs in Sandton, travelers nab penthouses with skyline pools.

The staff were very kind
What could be improved: When I was booking I indicated it was for 2 adult however On Arrival was charged R350 extra because I bought my friend making our stay R1450 I literally stay in Pretoria less than 30 minutes from Sandton and really wish had drove back to my comfy home with my friend immediately after the concert
We checked in at 6:30 then came back at 00:30 our room to find the room extremely so cold The air-con was not working the staff had brought an oil heater just as we checked in she explained that air con takes time to heat the room so we knew at that moment that if she is saying wen we come back the room will still be not hot then we are in troubleThey don't supply any meat for breakfast which they don't disclose on their website – Mbuti from South Africa – September 26, 2023 (7/10)

The room was beautifully appointed & very comfortable. The provision of extra blankets was most appreciated.
The kitchen facilities were great although the fridge was rather noisy.
The breakfast was most enjoyable- with very good coffee & the pastries & cheeses were perfect for our dietary needs.
The service was great & very accommodating in all ways.
Wendy(manageress) certainly made us feel so welcome.
What could be improved: Although we didn't use the outside shower- it could use a good cleaning.
The pedestrian exit gate is rather dangerous with a bar across, as well as the entrance is very narrow for a big car.Good – Maria-luiza from South Africa – February 19, 2023 (7/10)
What could be improved: В номере не было бутылок с водой. Пришлось пить воду из-под крана
Exceptional – Setsoto from Lesotho – February 10, 2023 (10/10)
Staff ready to welcome me. The cleanness and comfort of the bedding superb.
What could be improved: The entrance gate too narrow and risky for unfamiliar driver.Warm reception and stay. – Moeketsi from Lesotho – December 19, 2022 (8/10)
The personal attention offered by the operator.
What could be improved: The finish in the is a bit dated if you are looking for the modern glass facades.
