I’ll be honest – when I first heard about 7 on Middle Serviced Apartments, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a serviced apartment setup in Johannesburg. But this four-star property actually surprised me in the best way possible. Located right on Middle Street, you’re basically planted in the heart of the city’s business district, which sounds corporate and sterile, but it’s actually pretty convenient once you get your bearings.

What struck me first was how they’ve managed to make these apartments feel like actual homes rather than hotel rooms with kitchenettes slapped in. I mean, the living spaces are properly sized – you can actually spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase. The kitchens are well-equipped too, which is clutch if you’re staying for more than a couple nights or just tired of restaurant food (and honestly, who isn’t after a week of travel?). I particularly appreciated that they stock proper coffee – not those sad instant packets you usually get. The whole setup works especially well if you’re in Joburg for business or an extended stay, since you get that apartment independence with hotel-style housekeeping.

The location grows on you once you figure out the neighborhood rhythm. You’re walking distance from some solid restaurants and cafes, and the Gautrain station isn’t far if you need to get to the airport or Pretoria. Parking was straightforward, which anyone who’s driven in Johannesburg will tell you is not something to take for granted. The staff seemed to actually know the area well – they gave me directions to a great local spot for dinner that I never would have found otherwise. Security felt solid without being overbearing, which matters in this part of the city. The only minor thing is that street noise can be a bit much if you’re a light sleeper, but honestly, that’s just city living. Overall, it’s one of those places that works better in practice than it sounds on paper – functional, comfortable, and run by people who seem to get what travelers actually need rather than what they think we want.

  Tight security, very clean and comfortable rooms. The facility provided everything to make a comfortable stay. The host was very accommodating and allowed us to check in ahead of time. Host was also available at all times when required.
  
  What could be improved: Neighbours in the opposite units had a good view into our rooms which was not very comfortable. There was no notice sent in advance to prepare us for water outages. We awoke to dry taps on the day of checkout which upset all of our plans for the day. We queried the water issue with our host who could not provide an immediate answer and took a while to come back to us with feedback. All the while we were under the impression that they were attending to the issue and the water was going to be restored. When we were finally notified of the water outage, we learnt that it was a common issue in the area. It would have been better if we knew about this ahead of time so we could plan accordingly. Albeit, our host was accommodating and extended our checkout time to an additional 2 hours.

  The location, tight security(safety). Plenty of parking space and the host who was forever available on the phone.
  
  What could be improved: I had a medical emergency, and none of the neighbors could assist. Thankfully, the receptionist managed to come through with the EMS number.

  Apartment was new , so no damages yet
  
  What could be improved: Didn’t like separate apartment design, divisions in the rooms especially with kids doesn’t feel comfortable, we had no water our entire stay, then when the water came back,there was no hot water …. We left without bathing – no blankets or extra towels , no iron and ironing board,
  No sun comes into the apartment, it’s a bit shady and cold unless you keep hot air conditioning on.
