Acacia Grove Guest House Overview

I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Acacia Grove Guest House on that quiet stretch of Acacia Road. Bedfordview isn’t exactly the flashiest part of town, but you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need. This four-star place sits in one of those leafy residential pockets where you can actually hear birds instead of traffic, which is pretty rare when you’re still this close to Johannesburg‘s business districts.

The moment I walked through the front door, I could tell someone actually cares about this place. The owner – I think her name was Sarah – greeted me personally and knew my name without me having to spell it three times. The whole property has this warm, lived-in feeling that’s completely different from those sterile chain hotels you usually get stuck with. My room was spacious (honestly bigger than my apartment back home), and the bed was one of those cloud-like situations where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re drowning in foam. What really got me though was the attention to small stuff – proper coffee in the room, not those sad instant packets, and towels that were actually fluffy instead of those thin things that just push water around.

The breakfast situation is where this place really shines. They serve it in this gorgeous conservatory area that catches the morning light perfectly, and I mean, the spread is impressive without being overwhelming. Fresh fruit, proper bacon, eggs done however you want them – but it’s the homemade rusks that’ll get you. I’m not usually a breakfast person, but I found myself getting up early just to sit in that sunny room with a proper cup of coffee. Parking was never an issue either, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Johannesburg will tell you is basically a miracle. The location works really well if you need to get into Sandton or the East Rand for business – about twenty minutes in normal traffic, though we all know Joburg traffic isn’t exactly predictable. Evenings are surprisingly quiet here, so if you’re someone who needs actual sleep instead of the usual city soundtrack, you’ll appreciate it. The 8.3 rating this place gets makes total sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s not trying to be the fanciest spot in town, but everything they do, they do properly. I’ve stayed in plenty of places that cost twice as much and delivered half the experience.

Reviews of Acacia Grove Guest House

  • Overall, a nice place to stay. The hosts made us feel very welcomed. – Alvin from Switzerland – December 19, 2024 (9/10)

    Excellent hosts.

What could be improved: The color of the pool was not what I was expecting. I want a beautiful blue or turquoise color pool.

  • Zamani's review – Mvukela from South Africa – December 19, 2024 (9/10)

The breakfast incredible, the bathroom was excellent, the in room television and internet speed, the pool was nice and cold.

What could be improved: Room was hot, but that was unavoidable, the fan was constantly on but the heat wave that weekend was so bad that the fan couldn't do much, but the swimming pool really helped cool us down.

  • Very Good – Linda from Eswatini – December 15, 2024 (8/10)

  • A lovely B&B, we had everything we needed and James and his family were very hospitable. – Sheldon from South Africa – June 18, 2024 (10/10)

We were welcomed by James, and kept informed of everything in the lead up to our arrival, and while we were there. We had a lovely stay, and delicious breakfast.

  • Value for money with good facilities and great host. – Caz from South Africa – November 27, 2023 (7/10)

Excellent hosting and friendliness of other guests.

What could be improved: There is a communal coffee and tea/ dining area which is nice but I would have loved a kettle and coffee making facility in my room.

  • Good – Katja from Germany – April 30, 2023 (7/10)

  • Comfortable stay conveniently located. Happy and friendly family. – Beatrys from South Africa – February 15, 2023 (9/10)

Good WiFi and huge selection of online entertainment. Clean and comfortable. Friendly family.

What could be improved: They could look into being less affected by loadshedding. However, we all have to deal with it.

  • Exceptional – Shingy from New Zealand – November 14, 2022 (10/10)

  • Amazing – Harvey from South Africa – October 10, 2022 (10/10)

Location was perfect as it was close to my place of work.

    What could be improved: Loadshedding.
James should install inverters to power up rooms if loadshedding hits.
