Artsy City Studio Apartment Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Artsy City Studio Apartment on Main Street, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The building itself has this great industrial-meets-creative vibe that somehow perfectly captures what Johannesburg is all about these days. You know how some places just feel right the moment you step inside? This was definitely one of those.
The studio itself is surprisingly spacious for what you’d typically expect in the city center. I mean, whoever designed this place actually gets how people want to live when they’re exploring a new city. There’s this fantastic exposed brick wall that gives the whole space character, and the windows are massive – honestly, the natural light streaming in during the morning was incredible. The kitchen setup is smart too; it’s compact but has everything you actually need if you want to grab groceries from the Park Station area and cook something up. What really impressed me was how they managed to create distinct zones in the space without it feeling cramped. The sleeping area feels separate from the living space, which is harder to pull off than you’d think in a studio.
Location-wise, you’re right in the thick of things here on Main Street, which can be both a blessing and… well, let’s just say it gets lively on weekend nights. But that’s part of the charm, honestly. You’re walking distance from some of Joburg’s best galleries and that whole Maboneng district is just a short trip away. I actually loved being able to walk to places like the Carlton Centre area during the day – there’s so much history right at your doorstep. The four-star rating feels spot-on; this isn’t luxury in the traditional sense, but it’s thoughtfully done with genuine attention to what travelers actually want. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle (street parking mostly), but the building feels secure and the check-in process was refreshingly straightforward. The host clearly knows the neighborhood well and had great recommendations for everything from where to get the best coffee nearby to which streets to stick to after dark. What struck me most was how this place manages to feel both urban and homey – you get that authentic Johannesburg energy right outside your door, but you also have a genuinely comfortable retreat to come back to.

Walking distance to cafes, supermarkets, pharmacies, and restaurants.
The host answered our messages quickly and was very accommodating.
It is a very spacious apartment, well decorated, stable wifi and the
washing machine available was definitely a plus. The security is 24/7.
Great place for someone looking to be in the heart of Maboneng.
What could be improved: This place was perfect for us as we were looking to be right in the center of Joburg. However, if you are looking for peace and quiet or if you are sensitive to noise, this might not be the ideal place for you. It does get quiet past a certain time, Saturdays are the busiest, but as it is not on the main street where most of the clubs are, it was fine for us.Great experience – Nhlakanipho from South Africa – September 22, 2024 (10/10)
The place exceeded my expectations. The host had everything we needed. The bed was clean, and the kitchen was stocked with clean supplies; she even provided washing powder. It was cozy, and there were extra blankets available. 10/10—I’ll definitely be going back. It felt like a home away from home.
