At Bagley Tarrace house Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to At Bagley Tarrace house – honestly, the name itself is a bit quirky with that spelling, but sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you upfront. This three-star spot sits right on Bagley Terrace in Randburg, and I mean right in the thick of things without being overwhelmed by the chaos you get closer to Johannesburg’s city center.

The thing about this place is that it actually feels like staying at someone’s well-kept family home rather than a sterile hotel room. The owners clearly put thought into the little touches – I’m talking about proper coffee (not that instant stuff you sometimes get), and the kind of breakfast setup where you can actually customize things instead of grabbing whatever’s left on a buffet. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully laid out, and honestly, the beds are way more comfortable than you’d expect for this price range. I slept like a rock, which doesn’t always happen when I’m traveling. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re still close enough to everything that matters – you can hear the occasional car on the main road, but it’s more of a gentle hum than actual traffic noise.

Randburg itself is one of those areas that locals love but tourists often overlook, and staying here gives you a real feel for how people actually live in Jo’burg. You’re maybe fifteen minutes from Sandton if you need the big city corporate vibe, but you can also walk to some genuinely good local spots for dinner. The parking situation is refreshingly stress-free (which, let’s be honest, matters more than it should), and the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to point you toward places that aren’t just the obvious tourist traps. I mean, the 7.2 rating tells part of the story, but what it doesn’t capture is that this is the kind of place where everything just works without any fuss – the wifi is solid, the hot water doesn’t run out, and nobody’s trying to upsell you on services you don’t need. It’s not fancy, but it’s genuinely comfortable in that way that makes you feel like you can actually relax instead of constantly being “on” as a traveler.

Reviews of At Bagley Tarrace house

  • Very Good – Wendy from South Africa – August 23, 2025 (8/10)

Violet was amazing! She was so helpful and kind!

What could be improved: The bed was a small, but comfortable. Shower has no curtain, but does the job just fine.

  • Good – Siphuma from South Africa – June 4, 2025 (7/10)

Everything was good except for the bed and the shower not having hot water

What could be improved: The shower had no hot water coming out,we tried leaving it open for a while thinking the water would be hot but the water was still cold. And the bed was so loud and uncomfortable to sleep in

  • Good – Michael from South Africa – May 3, 2025 (7/10)

The unit was very spacious and offered a decent level of comfort. I'm happy with the service from the staff too.

What could be improved: Despite offering a good comfort level, the bed in the unit creaks and makes a lot of noise with even the slightest movement. Many times I've been woken up just because I turned around; so that is a large negative for me. Internet was also very choppy and kept disconnecting for long periods during my stay.

The location of the property is in a safe area, but given the safety record of Johannesburg, not having a gate that is easy to open was a big concern for me. The gate was manual and locked with a padlock, so operating it meant exiting my vehicle. There would be times where I returned late at night and it was nerve wrecking having to exit the vehicle, unlock the gate and push it open. The gate itself was very heavy too.

  • It was a pleasure visiting Johannesburg for the first time despite there not being water for the whole weekend but the h – Naydin from South Africa – December 20, 2024 (7/10)

    Good area and quiet

  • We enjoyed our stay, but the cleanliness can be improved on. – Lauren from South Africa – December 2, 2024 (6/10)

I liked the cottage we were in, the garden outside was a breath of fresh air and the pool was okay. I liked the privacy the cottage offered aswel.

What could be improved: The cottage had many spider webs which made us feel uncomfortable. The shower has no door which made the floor very wet after taking a shower. The caretaker did not come to clean the room during our stay and there was no mop and broom left in the cottage for us to clean ourselves.

  • Pleasant relaxing weekend – Antoinette from South Africa – November 29, 2024 (7/10)

What could be improved: We were without water for the whole of Saturday; however this is beyond the Host's control.

  • Very Good – Romela from South Africa – November 17, 2024 (8/10)

    Peace and quiet

What could be improved: Certain things wasn't up to standard. Ensuite shower wasn't working properly. 6 of us had to wait in que to use one shower. Other bathroom shower was glogging and remote gate not working, made it very difficult to keep jumping off the vehicle to open and close gate. Pool needs to be cleaned properly as well. I personally think that a proper shower should be installed into the ensuite.

  • Very Good – Dumi from Zimbabwe – March 25, 2024 (8/10)

    The place was clean

What could be improved: The gate must be automated

  • Good – Lindokuhle from South Africa – October 23, 2023 (7/10)

Place is exactly as seen on photos

What could be improved: Bathrooms are not as clean, no soaps, essentials even hand wash

  • Very present keeper of the house – Sandra from Netherlands – March 21, 2023 (6/10)

The house is at a wonderful location and has enough space and good facilities.

What could be improved: The person that provided us with the keys kept been in the house unannounced and for no apparent reason. She was also using the terrace that belongs to the house and she would have very loud conversations with the gardener. We did not experience any privacy.

The house is connected to another part and the television in that part is on the wall shared with the master bedroom of the house we rented. One night this television was on a very high volume even at 2pm, no one slept well that night, because of the noise.
