Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Atrium Oasis, Sandton on De La Rey Road, I wasn’t expecting much. The entrance is sort of tucked away in Rivonia, and you know how some of these four-star places can be hit or miss. But honestly? This place surprised me in the best way possible.

The moment you walk into the lobby, you get why they called it “Atrium” – there’s this gorgeous glass ceiling that floods the whole space with natural light, and they’ve got these water features that actually don’t feel cheesy (which is saying something). The staff at check-in were genuinely friendly, not that rehearsed hotel politeness you usually get. I mean, the guy behind the desk gave me actual useful tips about avoiding traffic on Rivonia Road during rush hour – that’s local knowledge right there. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than flashy. Mine had this view over the courtyard area, and I actually loved watching the light change throughout the day. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and there’s enough space to spread out without feeling like you’re camping in a shoebox. What really got me was the attention to detail – decent water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that actually block light, and power outlets where you need them.

The location is honestly perfect if you’re doing business in Johannesburg or just want to be close to Sandton without paying Sandton CBD prices. You’re literally minutes from the Gautrain station, and there’s this little cluster of restaurants within walking distance that most tourists never discover. I spent a few evenings just wandering around Rivonia – it’s got this quieter, more residential vibe that’s a nice break from the city chaos. Parking was never an issue, which anyone who’s driven around Johannesburg will tell you is basically a minor miracle. The hotel restaurant is decent enough, though I’d recommend venturing out for dinner – there’s this Ethiopian place about five minutes away that’ll change your life. Breakfast was solid, nothing fancy but they know how to make proper coffee and the selection was better than I expected. You know what impressed me most? The little things. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, housekeeping pays attention to how you leave your stuff, and when I had to extend my stay by a night, they made it happen without drama. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it does what it promises really well. For the price point and that 8.5 rating it’s got, I’d definitely stay here again – especially if I’m in Johannesburg for more than just a quick business trip.
