Walking up to this place, I was expecting just another standard guesthouse in Randburg, but honestly – this four-star gem feels more like staying at someone’s incredibly stylish home than a typical hotel. The cottage sits on this quiet residential street that most tourists would never stumble across, which is exactly what makes it special.

The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s hard to find in Johannesburg. I mean, the city can be pretty intense, but here you’re tucked away from all that energy while still being close enough to actually enjoy it. The owners have done something really thoughtful with the space – it’s got all these personal touches that make you feel welcome without being overly fussy about it. The rooms are spacious (and I mean properly spacious, not that cramped hotel room nonsense), with these gorgeous wooden floors that creak just slightly when you walk across them in the morning. There’s something comforting about that sound, actually. The beds are ridiculously comfortable – I’m talking the kind where you wake up and immediately want to stay for another hour, which happened to me more than once during my stay.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Randburg can surprise you with random street noise, but Bagley Terrace feels insulated from all that. The garden area is where I ended up spending most of my downtime – there’s this lovely outdoor seating area that catches the afternoon sun perfectly, and it’s ideal for working on your laptop or just reading with a cup of coffee. Speaking of coffee, they actually know how to make a proper cup here, which sounds like a small thing but makes such a difference when you’re starting your day. The staff genuinely seem to care about your experience, not in that over-the-top hospitality way, but more like they want to make sure you’re comfortable and have what you need. Parking was never an issue, which if you’ve spent any time driving around Joburg, you’ll know is worth mentioning. The whole area feels safe and residential, with tree-lined streets that are pleasant for morning walks – something I ended up doing more than expected. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax and recharge, whether you’re in town for business or trying to explore the city at a more reasonable pace.

  My second time staying with Viktoria and Sergei and I absolutely (once again) loved everything!
  The hosts are very accommodating, receptive and exceptionally warm. Staying here feels like I’m at home with family – very relaxing, quiet and I would say therapeutic, after a busy day.
  Location is so good: close to the shops, restaurants and JHB CBD, yet tucked away behind all the hustle and bustle – serene and quiet.
  The bed is very comfortable (with extra spine support) and the bedding is lovely, soft and fresh: I had a wonderful night’s sleep, followed by a refreshing swim in the gorgeous pool – simply haven!
  Complementary tea& coffee is always nice to have.
  I also really enjoyed the multi-functional shower and new luxury bath sheets were an exceptional addition.
  The little Kitchenette is very well equipped with any utensil you can think of!
  Cottage has pretty much anything and everything you require for a comfortable stay – home away from home!
  The quality of finishes, little touches and attention to detail is absolutely superb!!
  I honestly love this place and would absolutely love to be back!

  What could be improved: The host was rude , the insects was a lot ants all over the place and spiders was too much to deal with , we had to always ask for the iron but it was listed that a iron would be in the room , the sofa was the most uncomfortable, there no broom just a mop and the host expected me to clean with just a mop , there was only sunlight dish washer provided no other cleaning products, the bed had so much small black ants

  The place was amazing, and the hosts were superb!! I was travelling with my 4-year old daughter, and Victoria entertained her all morning. 🙂 She even made her a small 'Christmas present" (i.e., a wrapped-up box of smarties). Wonderful people!!

  Cosy, comfortable, well equipped, incredibly clean, self contained unit. Very good value. Wonderful, kind hosts (Viktoria and Sergei) who couldn't have been more helpful, warm and welcoming. Lovely leafy and safe location in Northcliff. Beautiful garden and pool area. Excellent Wi-Fi. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. We loved it and we loved V and S – thank you.   Wonderful safe location, very friendly and accommodating host.
  The cottage is home away from home: well equipped kitchen; comfortable bed with lovely bedding; very clean bathroom.
  I fell well rested after a good night’s sleep, as the cottage was peaceful and very quiet.
