The hotel itself sits in this quiet pocket where you’re not hearing traffic all night (which, let’s face it, is pretty rare in Joburg), but you’re also not stuck in the middle of nowhere wondering where to grab dinner.

What really got me was how the place feels more like serviced apartments than a typical hotel – and I mean that in the best way possible. The rooms are actually spacious, with proper kitchenettes that aren’t just for show. I ended up cooking breakfast a few times because, honestly, the local Woolworths is right there and it felt nice to have that option. The staff really knows their stuff too – when I mentioned I was heading to Sandton for meetings, the guy at reception gave me this whole rundown of which routes to avoid during rush hour and even suggested I grab coffee at this little place down the road instead of paying hotel prices. That’s the kind of local insight you don’t get at those big chain places. The Wi-Fi actually works properly (crucial for me since I was working remotely), and there’s decent parking which anyone who’s spent time in Johannesburg will tell you is not something to take for granted. I stayed during what turned out to be a pretty busy conference season, but the place never felt crowded or chaotic. Actually, most evenings were pretty peaceful – you get that residential quiet but with all the hotel services when you need them. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than just passing through.
