I mean, there are birch trees on the property – quite lovely ones, actually – but you’re literally at the corner of Christo and Church Avenue, which puts you in one of Johannesburg’s more established northern suburbs.

The location is honestly perfect if you want that sweet spot between suburban calm and city access. Randburg has this interesting vibe where it feels residential but you’re never more than five minutes from a decent restaurant or shopping center. The cottage itself – well, it’s more like an elegant guesthouse, really – has this wonderful balance of intimacy and professionalism that you don’t always find. The rooms have character without being fussy, and the service feels personal without being intrusive. I particularly appreciated how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re on a corner – the way the building is positioned and the landscaping really buffer any street noise.

What I found refreshing was how the staff actually knew the area. When I asked about good local spots, they didn’t just hand me a generic tourist brochure – they gave me specific recommendations based on what I was looking for. The breakfast setup is generous without being overwhelming, and honestly, sitting in their garden area in the morning with proper South African coffee feels like exactly what you want when you’re trying to ease into a day of exploring Jo’burg. The 8.8 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed there – it’s the kind of place that gets the fundamentals right and then adds those thoughtful touches that make you remember it fondly. Parking is straightforward (always a relief in this part of the world), check-in was smooth, and the whole experience felt more like staying with well-organized friends than at a commercial property.

  The hosts were very LOVELY. Friendly, polite and patient for my last minute late check in. Very clean and comfortable room with preheated electric blanket (highlight!). Secure parking and very nice custom selections for breakfast. I would stay here again!
