Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name Braham Apartments – The Oasis 48B, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It sounds a bit corporate, doesn’t it? But after spending a few nights there, I get why they call it an oasis. This three-star place sits right on Middle Road in Sandton, and you know what? The location actually works better than some of the flashier spots I’ve stayed at in Johannesburg.

What struck me right away was how quiet it is, considering you’re basically in the heart of Sandton’s business district. I mean, you’re walking distance from Sandton City Mall and all those glass office towers, but somehow the apartment feels tucked away from the chaos. The building itself is nothing fancy from the outside – sort of that modern African urban style you see everywhere now – but step inside and it’s surprisingly well put together. The lobby’s clean without being sterile, and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which is rarer than you’d think in this part of town.

The apartment I stayed in (honestly can’t remember if it was 48B specifically, but they all seem pretty similar) had this really nice setup with a proper kitchenette. Not just a mini-fridge and microwave, but actual counter space where you can spread out your takeaway from the Nelson Mandela Square restaurants or – if you’re feeling ambitious – cook something real. The living area flows naturally into the bedroom space, and while it’s not huge, it doesn’t feel cramped either. There’s this big window that looks out toward the Sandton skyline, and in the evenings when those office lights start twinkling, it’s actually quite lovely. The Wi-Fi works properly throughout the space, which saved my life during a few video calls back home.

Parking was straightforward – they’ve got secure underground spots, and you don’t have to circle the block hunting for street parking like you do in some parts of the city. The neighborhood comes alive during weekdays with all the business crowd, but weekends get surprisingly mellow. I actually enjoyed walking around Middle Road in the mornings, grabbing coffee from one of those little cafés that cater to the office workers.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the place runs efficiently without being impersonal. Check-in was smooth, housekeeping was thorough but not intrusive, and when I had a small issue with the air conditioning, someone came up within an hour to sort it out. For a three-star setup, that kind of responsiveness impressed me. The bathroom’s modern with good water pressure, and they stock it with decent toiletries, not those tiny bottles that smell like antiseptic.

If you’re coming to Johannesburg for business or just want to be central to Sandton’s restaurants and shopping without paying premium hotel prices, this place makes a lot of sense. It’s not going to wow you with luxury touches, but it delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable, well-located base that feels more like a temporary home than a hotel room.
