I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to By Appointment Suites on Etosha Crescent, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The name sounds a bit formal, doesn’t it? But honestly, this place completely surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in Sandown Estate, which is actually perfect because you’re close enough to all the Sandton action but far enough from the main road chaos that you can actually get some peace.

The moment you walk in, you realize this isn’t your typical four-star setup – it feels more like staying at a really well-appointed friend’s place who happens to have impeccable taste. The suites are genuinely spacious (and I mean actually spacious, not hotel-brochure spacious), with separate living areas that make you forget you’re not in your own apartment. What really got me was the attention to detail – proper coffee setup, not those tiny hotel packets, and kitchenettes that are actually functional if you want to grab groceries from the nearby Woolworths and make breakfast. The beds are that perfect firmness where you sink in just enough, and honestly, the air conditioning works like a dream, which anyone who’s spent time in Johannesburg’s unpredictable weather will appreciate.

You know what really sets this place apart though? The staff actually remember your name after the first day, and they’ll give you proper directions to places, not just the tourist spots. When I needed to get to the Sandton Convention Centre, the front desk guy – I think his name was Thabo – drew me a little map showing the shortcuts through the back streets to avoid the Nelson Mandela Square traffic nightmare. Little things like that make such a difference. The location is honestly brilliant if you’re doing business in the area – you can walk to most places in Sandown, and there’s secure parking (which, let’s be real, is non-negotiable around here). The only minor thing is that room service stops a bit early, but there are plenty of decent restaurants within a five-minute drive, including that excellent sushi place on Rivonia Road if you’re into that sort of thing. I mean, with a 9.7 rating, you’d expect something special, and this place actually delivers on that promise without feeling pretentious about it. It’s the kind of spot where business travelers end up extending their stays just because it feels right.

  The cottage is located in a nice and secure area, ensuring a peaceful stay. The breakfast, though consistent daily, was exceptionally delicious and healthy, offering a great start to our mornings.   Everything!!! Liz is an amazing host! She made sure that we felt welcomed even before our arrival. She knows all the neighborhood and gave us some precious tips on what to do and where to eat.
  
  The house is inside a gated area, super secure! The room is nice, comfy bed and nice pillows! It has a funcional kitchen with everything that you need and bathroom with good shower!
  Breakfast was delicious!
