I’ll be honest, when I first walked into CAG The Vantage Rosebank, I wasn’t expecting much from the corner spot on Bath and Tyrwhitt – but this four-star place genuinely surprised me. The lobby has this sleek, modern vibe that doesn’t feel stuffy or overly corporate, and you know what really caught my attention? The staff actually remembered my name after the first night, which doesn’t happen often at hotels this size.

What really makes this place work is how well they’ve figured out Johannesburg – I mean, Rosebank can be tricky if you don’t know the area, but The Vantage sits right where you want to be. You’re literally walking distance to the Gautrain station (huge plus if you’re flying in and out of OR Tambo), and the Zone mall is practically next door when you need groceries or just want to grab coffee that isn’t hotel coffee. The rooms are actually spacious, which surprised me since so many newer hotels squeeze you into these tiny boxes. Mine had floor-to-ceiling windows facing north, and honestly, watching the city wake up with my morning coffee became this little ritual I looked forward to. The beds are properly comfortable – not too soft, not too firm – and the air conditioning works without sounding like a jet engine, which matters more than you’d think in Joburg’s unpredictable weather.

Here’s what I really appreciated: the parking situation is sorted (and secure, which locals will tell you matters), the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, and they’ve got this business center setup that doesn’t feel like an afterthought. The restaurant downstairs does decent food – nothing groundbreaking, but solid enough that I ate there three times without getting bored. Service can slow down during peak dinner hours, but the breakfast spread is consistently good. One small thing that annoyed me was the elevator wait times during morning rush, but that’s pretty typical for buildings in this part of town. The pool area on the upper level gives you nice views over the suburb, though it can get windy in the afternoons. Overall, it’s one of those places that just works – you check in, everything functions the way it should, and you can focus on whatever brought you to Johannesburg instead of dealing with hotel headaches.

  The rooms were lovely, very spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable and I had a great sleep. There were plenty of amenities that would be appreciated in cooler or warmer months—a heater and an electric blanket in the rooms, as well as a portable fan.
  
  What could be improved: There was a bit of an odd smell when we first arrived at the apartment, but it seemed to go away once we'd aired out the place. The fridge smelled quite strongly of fish, presumably from the previous occupant.

  The cleanliness and convenience to the mall. Quite a safe area you could return at night and have no issues. 5min walk to the train and the Rosebank scenery and bars. 24hr check in is a nice touch
  
  What could be improved: Getting out the parking can be annoying if you have a long car (8 seater bus). But you just have to do a 5 point turn or back i and out of a carpark.

  The location was great, 3mins walk to Rosebank. We restuarant hopped till the wee hours of the morning. It was safe to walk to the property with secutity all over. Parking was secure. The reception staff was always very friendly and helpful.
  
  The rooms had electric blankets, extra blankets and even a heater which was GREAT. That was not mentioned on the profile.
  
  What could be improved: The showers need a thorough clean and disinfecting. The shower floors were disgusting. We found hair and beads. The shower / bathroom is a bit mouldy and showed signs of water damage, maintenance is required.

  The property was clean and the location was perfect- very close to the mall.

  We regularly stay at Vantage. We like the good and clean upkeep of the apartment, convenient location, clean linen and daily cleaning service available.

  Nice view, it was very cold but our unit was warm. It had an aircon that warmed things up.
  
  What could be improved: There was a water shortage in that area, and we were without water for two days. The staff helped supply 10 liters of water every day for washing and cleaning. They handled the situation well.
  When we had water, there was no hot water in the morning to shower with.
