I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Cherry Tree Cottage B&B Linden on Ninth Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name had me picturing some quaint English countryside setup, but this is Randburg we’re talking about, and you know how these suburban three-star places can be hit or miss. Well, I’m happy to report this one’s definitely more hit than miss.

The cottage sits in one of those tree-lined streets that makes Johannesburg feel less like a sprawling metropolis and more like, well, somewhere you’d actually want to spend a weekend. What struck me right away was how quiet it gets here once the evening traffic dies down – and I mean properly quiet, not that fake suburban silence where you’re still hearing highway noise in the distance. The hosts have done something really smart with the garden space too. There’s this little seating area where you can actually hear birds in the morning, which sounds ridiculous but honestly made my coffee taste better somehow.

The rooms themselves are exactly what you’d want from a B&B experience without any of the fussy Victorian nonsense that some places think they need to pile on. Everything feels clean and comfortable – the beds are proper firm (thank goodness), and there’s enough space to actually unpack if you’re staying more than a night. I particularly appreciated that they’ve figured out the shower pressure situation, which you can never take for granted in these older residential conversions. The breakfast deserves a mention too, and I don’t just mean the standard continental spread that most places phone in. They actually cook things fresh, and the coffee is strong enough to get you moving without tasting like it came from a machine that’s seen better decades. You’ll want to chat with the owners if you get the chance – they know Randburg inside and out and can point you toward the good local spots that don’t make it into the tourist guides. Parking is straightforward right on the property, which might sound basic but you’ll appreciate it when you’re not circling blocks looking for a spot. The whole experience just feels genuine, you know? Like someone actually cares about whether you sleep well and leave happy, rather than just trying to maximize occupancy rates.
