I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Chic & Cozy 2-Bedroom Retreat in Randburg, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from a three-star place tucked away in this part of Johannesburg. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that surprise you right from the start.

The thing about Randburg is that it’s got this really authentic South African suburban vibe – none of the touristy hustle you get closer to the city center, but still close enough that you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere. The retreat itself sits in one of those tree-lined neighborhoods where you actually hear birds in the morning instead of traffic, which honestly was such a nice change of pace. I mean, the name says “cozy” and they weren’t kidding – it’s the kind of place where you immediately kick off your shoes and feel like you’re staying at a friend’s house rather than some sterile hotel room. The two-bedroom setup is perfect if you’re traveling with family or friends because you actually get space to spread out, and the living area has this lived-in comfort that makes you want to curl up with a book and a cup of rooibos tea.

What really impressed me was how the owners seem to get the little things that matter. The kitchen is actually functional – I’m talking full-sized fridge, decent cookware, not those sad hotel kitchenettes where you can barely boil water. There’s a Woolworths just down the road (locals will know exactly what I’m talking about) so you can grab proper groceries if you want to cook, plus a few good restaurants within walking distance when you don’t feel like dealing with dishes. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the place, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get this wrong. Parking is right there and secure, which anyone who’s spent time in Joburg will appreciate – no circling the block or wondering if your car will still have its mirrors in the morning. The whole setup just feels thoughtful in a way that makes you realize the difference between someone who’s actually in the hospitality business versus someone just renting out space. Sure, it’s not going to blow you away with fancy amenities or concierge service, but that 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s solidly good at what it promises to be, without pretending to be something it’s not.

  No reception and frustrating checking in and out. Communication is through a call center in Cape Town, which keeps you on hold for a long time. Communication is one-sided,they don't follow up on your concerns.
  Check out instructions say leave the key on the table, as to how you leave the premises it becomes your concern as you have no keys to open the gate.
