Colosseum Apartments Overview
I’ll be honest, when I first pulled up to Colosseum Apartments on Kruis Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the area’s got that authentic Johannesburg energy that can feel a bit overwhelming if you’re not used to it. But you know what? This four-star spot really surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself has this interesting mix of modern apartment living with proper hotel services, which actually works better than it sounds on paper. What struck me right away was how the staff genuinely seemed to care about getting you settled in properly, not just checking boxes on some corporate checklist.
The apartments themselves are spacious in that way that makes you realize how cramped most hotel rooms actually are. I mean, having a proper kitchen and living area changes everything when you’re staying more than just a night or two. The furnishings aren’t trying too hard to be trendy – they’re just comfortable and well-thought-out, with decent lighting for actually reading at night (something you’d think would be standard but somehow never is). From my unit, I could see bits of the city sprawling out toward the northern suburbs, and honestly, there’s something pretty captivating about Johannesburg’s skyline when the late afternoon light hits it just right. The neighborhood itself is one of those areas that’s clearly in transition – you’ve got some fantastic local spots for food mixed in with the usual urban grit, but it feels authentic rather than sanitized for tourists.
What really sold me on this place was the practical stuff that most people don’t think about until they need it. The internet actually works properly (tested it on video calls – no issues), there’s decent parking that doesn’t require a PhD in spatial reasoning to navigate, and the soundproofing is surprisingly good considering you’re basically in apartment-style living. I stayed during a pretty busy period in the city, and while you can definitely hear that you’re in a vibrant area, it’s not the kind of noise that keeps you up at night. The location puts you close enough to the central business district that you’re not spending half your day in traffic, but far enough out that you get a real feel for how the city actually lives and breathes. Plus, having that full kitchen meant I could grab fresh produce from the local markets and actually cook – something that makes any extended stay feel less like you’re just passing through and more like you’re experiencing the place properly.

Good – Rethabile from South Africa – January 4, 2025 (7/10)
The apartment is spacious, also the WiFi was working properly and it's cozy and the host was very helpful. Over all it was a nice stay
What could be improved: I don't like the fact that the pan and the baking pan were dirty also I found a plate inside the microwave with pizza and the was a broken flute glass in the cabinet. I didn't like that you only had one dish cloth try to also put cleaning utensils.Good!! – Rosalia from South Africa – December 30, 2024 (8/10)
It is close to wanderers taxi rank/parkstation… it had everything I needed for the night… The host was very friendly, communicative and accommodated me with late check in, very much appreciated … I was impressed by their check in system, very clever…I would definitely book again if I need accommodation around Braam
What could be improved: The only thing I did not like was that there was a dustbin under the sink that was full, I think from the previous guests garbage… I would also like to recommend a stain remover for their linen (Dr Beckmann from checkers)… otherwise I loved the place 🖤Good – Makhosi from South Africa – September 22, 2024 (7/10)
I loved that it's central. It was nice and cozy for me and my partner.
What could be improved: Well, it was just a small issue, but I think it's because it was a last-minute arrangement. Issue with me checking in, and that we had to wait a bit.Very Good – An-troëy from South Africa – September 18, 2024 (8/10)
I loved the fact that the place was spacious and had fresh smell each and every day …. The TV that also made it fun to watch movies on as it was a bit similar to the big screen. And ofcause as a black person there's nothing more we love then free things a specially wifi. I was a able to do all my work effectively. The property also provided the exact promised room and that was a win .
What could be improved: What I didn't like was that there was no iron nor a bin to throw our trash .There was also no soap provided to wash I had to buy my own.Not quite so luxurious anymore. – Denis from New Zealand – August 30, 2024 (5/10)
Security staff were helpful. Location, close to Park station, was good for us.
What could be improved: Roll together bed. Poor lighting. Shower was poor. Building had a "past its used by date," vibe for luxury.
