I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name Cozy retreat in Fourways, I was expecting something pretty basic. But this four-star spot tucked away on Birch Road really surprised me. It’s actually inside the Tocara Lifestyle Estate, which means you’re getting that gated community feel without the stuffiness that usually comes with it. The security guards wave you through with genuine smiles, and there’s this immediate sense of calm once you’re past the gates – quite a shift from the usual Fourways hustle.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to create something that feels authentically homey while still hitting all those upscale notes you want. The rooms have this lived-in comfort that’s hard to fake – think quality linens that actually feel soft, not just expensive, and those little touches like proper reading lights and outlets where you actually need them. You know what I mean? The kind of details that tell you someone who actually travels designed this place. The communal areas spill out naturally onto these lovely outdoor spaces, and honestly, I found myself hanging around way longer than I planned just because it felt so relaxed. There’s this covered patio area where you can hear birds in the morning instead of traffic, which is pretty remarkable considering you’re still in Johannesburg.

The location works really well if you know Fourways at all – you’re close enough to Montecasino and Fourways Mall that you can easily grab dinner or catch a movie, but far enough removed that you’re not dealing with the weekend crowds and parking nightmares. I actually walked to a few local spots, which you definitely can’t say about most places in this area. The estate itself has these winding roads lined with jacarandas, and during blooming season (October-November, if you’re planning), it’s genuinely stunning. One small thing – the Wi-Fi can get a bit spotty during load shedding, but they’ve got backup power for the essentials, and honestly, it forced me to actually unwind for once. The staff seem to genuinely live in the area and can point you toward those local gems you’d never find otherwise – there’s this incredible Portuguese bakery about ten minutes away that I never would’ve discovered on my own. With an 8.7 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and I can see why. It’s one of those places that gets the balance right between comfort and character.

  What could be improved: There were no bathroom amenities (no shower gel, no shower cap, only 1 toilet paper to use fo the whole week, as we've booked a whole week). Their didn't give us the spare linen we had to use the same one for the whole week. There was no light bulb, they sent a new one (2) but they didn't fit. When it was veeeery cold when we wanted to use the heater as we saw a cardboard on our arrival, only to find out there wasn't any, it was js a cardboard only. They didn't send us the location, we were lost not even knowing the place as we're not from Joburg.

  Good location, very clean, good features, spacious, great wifi, fantastic smart TV. The idea of the compartment with the apartment key is great. The owner was very response and friendly.
  
  What could be improved: Only minor issues: There was no soap and the toilet paper ran out and there was no spare. The owner should think of a better way to communicate gate access and locating the apartment key.

  The unit is very clean, it exceeded my expectations. It felt like home away from home. Very peaceful and quiet area. It will be my to go place whenever I visit south Africa. I recommend to anyone who is looking for accomodation. You won't regret it
