I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Craighall Executive Suites on Alexandra Avenue, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like another business hotel in the suburbs. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that surprise you without trying too hard. This four-star property sits right in the heart of Craighall, and if you know Johannesburg at all, you’ll appreciate how this puts you in one of the city’s genuinely pleasant residential areas. I mean, you’re close enough to Sandton’s business district that you won’t spend your life in traffic, but far enough out that you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of constant construction noise.

What really got me about this place was how they’ve managed to nail that executive suite concept without making it feel stuffy or corporate. The suites themselves are actually spacious – and I don’t mean hotel-brochure spacious, I mean you can spread out your laptop, papers, and still have room to move around. The kitchenettes are properly equipped too, which honestly saved me a fortune during my week-long stay since eating out in Joburg every meal gets expensive fast. The staff seems to get that most guests are here for extended stays, so they don’t hover but they’re genuinely helpful when you need something. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no upselling, no lengthy presentations about amenities I’d never use.

Here’s what I really appreciated though: the location gives you options. You’re a quick drive to Hyde Park Corner if you need proper shopping, Rosebank is accessible without dealing with the worst of Joburg traffic, and honestly, just walking around Craighall itself is pleasant in a way that’s rare for this city. The neighborhood has that established feel with actual trees lining the streets – you know, the kind of area where locals walk their dogs in the evening. Parking was never an issue, which anyone who’s stayed in central Joburg will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The rooms stay surprisingly quiet despite being on a fairly busy avenue, and the WiFi actually works consistently (I learned not to take this for granted after a few disappointing business trips). I’d definitely come back here, especially since they seem to have figured out that simple things done well – reliable hot water, decent coffee in the room, staff who remember your name – matter more than flashy amenities you’ll never touch.

  James was a wonderful, attentive but unobtrusive host. The apartments were ideal for our needs, and James even changed our booking to a more appropriate arrangement (interleading apartments) for our family. The units are spacious, clean, well decorated and very well appointed. The kitchens were excellent and had everything we needed. Highly recommend!

  I liked everything about this property. It was clean, modern, stylish, and well equipped.

  The place was perfectly made and in a quiet suburb. The room was neatly made and comfortable. James was a great host, made sure I got the keys, and even went out of his way to courier a charger I had left being. I will recommend the place to anyone and will definitely be returning.
