Dream Residence Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Dream Residence on Rietfontein Road, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The Rivonia area has this interesting mix of business parks and residential pockets, and this five-star boutique property sits right in the sweet spot between both worlds. You know what struck me first? How quiet it actually is, considering you’re basically in the heart of Johannesburg’s northern suburbs.

The whole place has this understated elegance that I really appreciated – none of that over-the-top lobby nonsense you sometimes get with luxury hotels. The staff genuinely seemed to know what they were doing during check-in, which sounds basic but honestly isn’t always a given. What I loved most was how they’ve managed to create this serene bubble while still being ridiculously close to Sandton’s business district. I mean, you can literally be in the middle of Nelson Mandela Square in about ten minutes, but when you’re back at the hotel, it feels like you’re miles away from all that chaos. The rooms themselves are spacious in that way that makes you forget you’re technically still in a hotel – proper closet space, a desk that’s actually usable, and these floor-to-ceiling windows that let in just the right amount of light without making the place feel like a fishbowl.

Here’s the thing about staying in Rivonia that I wish more people knew – you’re positioned perfectly for both business and leisure without the premium you’d pay for staying right in Sandton City. The hotel’s location means you can easily hop over to the Gautrain station at Sandton, or if you’re driving, you’ve got quick access to the highway system without dealing with the worst of the traffic snarls. Parking here is actually free and secure, which might not sound exciting but trust me, after you’ve circled Sandton looking for a decent spot, you’ll appreciate it. The breakfast spread was legitimately good – not just continental basics but proper local touches that showed they’re paying attention to details. I particularly enjoyed their take on traditional South African breakfast items alongside the usual international options. The pool area becomes this lovely evening spot where you can actually have a conversation without shouting over traffic noise, and the service never felt intrusive but was always there when you needed it. It’s the kind of place where you’d be comfortable bringing clients for a meeting but also wouldn’t mind just lounging around on a weekend.

Johannesburg tourism provides visitors with unforgettable experiences in Africa’s largest urban area, known for its dynamic street art, world-class restaurants, and legendary Soweto township tours.

  • Wonderful – Anonymous from South Africa – August 25, 2025 (9/10)

  • Good – Roschelle from Australia – June 28, 2025 (7/10)

  • Unclean beautiful property – Xolisiwe from South Africa – March 24, 2025 (6/10)

Beautiful property overall. Very modern. Spacious.
Security guard was also helpful. Loved the indoor pool, however if it was heated, it’d make it a whole lot better. Location is good. There’s shops nearby. It also felt safe. There wasn’t a time where we felt like needed to lock up.

What could be improved: I’m not sure if it’s because it was a same day booking and hosts didn’t have enough time to prepare for our stay, however property wasn’t very clean. It was dirty. Fridge very dirty, had dead ants in there. There was also a couple of stuff in there, looks like it’s been there a while. Spiders and webs everywhere, cockroaches as well. Which made us feel very uncomfortable.
No one came to clean the following morning.
Overall it wasn’t the worst experience, but it really wasn’t the best.

  • We enjoyed staying at the place. – Mmase from South Africa – November 4, 2024 (10/10)

The space, the rooms and the yard. Safety as well

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Luxe living – Nombina from South Africa – October 14, 2024 (10/10)

Airy. Comfortable and well kept space. The host had thought of most amenities that one could need during their stay. A very helpful on-site team. Will certainly be returning again. Beautifully curated art pieces which were great conversation starters, large spacious yard for early morning walks in a lovely peaceful neighborhood.

What could be improved: Soaps in the bathrooms and availability of a smart TV, the dstv was not connected and we had to use our phones for music. Otherwise the overall experience was sublime!
