I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Dynasty Forest Sandown Serviced Apartments & Self Catering Hotel on Westbrooke Drive, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The name makes it sound grander than it is, but you know what? That actually worked in my favor. This three-star property sits quietly in a residential part of Sandton, and while it might not have the flash of those big hotels closer to Nelson Mandela Square, it’s got something better – actual space to breathe and a genuine local feel.

The apartments themselves are what really won me over. I mean, having a proper kitchenette changes everything when you’re staying somewhere for more than a couple nights. Mine had a decent-sized fridge, a stovetop that actually worked well, and enough counter space to spread out groceries from the nearby Woolworths (about a ten-minute walk, which locals will tell you is pretty convenient). The living area felt more like someone’s actual apartment than a hotel room – there’s real furniture, not that generic hotel stuff, and windows that open properly so you can get some of that highveld air flowing through. The Wi-Fi was reliable too, which honestly surprised me given how many places in Johannesburg still struggle with that basic necessity.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Westbrooke Drive isn’t one of those busy Sandton streets where taxis are hooting until all hours – it’s more tucked away, surrounded by jacaranda trees that bloom spectacularly in spring if you’re lucky enough to visit then. The staff genuinely seemed to know their regular guests, and there’s something refreshing about that personal touch you don’t get at the massive chain hotels. Parking was never an issue either, which anyone who’s driven around Sandton City during peak hours will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The only thing that took some getting used to was that housekeeping comes every few days rather than daily – but honestly, with the kitchen facilities, it felt more like having your own place anyway. If you’re looking for that middle ground between a cramped hotel room and an expensive long-stay apartment, and you don’t mind being a bit removed from the main Sandton action, this place actually makes a lot of sense.
