Eagles Nest Lodge Overview
You know what struck me first about Eagles Nest Lodge? It’s tucked away on this quiet corner where Leslie Avenue meets William Nicol Drive, and honestly, I almost drove past it because it doesn’t scream “look at me” like some of the flashier places in Johannesburg. But that’s actually part of its charm – this four-star spot feels more like a well-kept secret than a tourist trap.
I mean, the location is pretty brilliant when you think about it. You’re close enough to the action that you can easily get to Sandton or Rosebank (the traffic on William Nicol can be brutal during rush hour, fair warning), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with city noise all night. The rooms have this sort of understated elegance – nothing too fancy, but everything feels solid and well-maintained. The beds are actually comfortable, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details – proper reading lights, enough power outlets, and thank goodness, decent water pressure in the shower.
The staff here really knows their stuff, and I got the sense they’ve been around for a while, which always makes me feel more confident about a place. They gave me genuinely helpful suggestions about where to eat nearby (there’s this fantastic Ethiopian place about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise). The breakfast area gets lovely morning light, and while it’s not huge, it never felt cramped even when busy. Parking is straightforward, which anyone who’s driven in Joburg will tell you is not something to take for granted. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with over-the-top luxury, but sometimes what you want is a place that just gets the fundamentals right – and Eagles Nest Lodge definitely does that. The 8.1 rating makes perfect sense to me; it’s the kind of place where everything works the way it should, the price feels fair for what you get, and you leave thinking you’d definitely stay there again.

Reviews of Eagles Nest Lodge
Solid Value for money & midweek over night stay – Linda from South Africa – August 24, 2025 (7/10)
Good value for money – we spent one night. Good security, especially since I borders a main road. Room was clean. Seamless check in process.
What could be improved: Portion of the property is leased out to a church on a Sunday. Would have been great to be alerted of this when booking, Sunday morning we were woken by singing and the sermon , also impacts parking in the property on a Sunday.Comfortable stay – Ernst from South Africa – March 3, 2025 (8/10)
Breakfast … not much of a choice but sufficient. My family and I stayed at the lodge, occupying two rooms. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. However, the shower taps were positioned in a way that made it easy to accidentally burn your hands or arms when turning on the water. Aside from that, the staff were exceptionally kind and helpful, making our stay even more enjoyable. The lodge offers excellent value for money, and we thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay.
