I’ll be honest, when I first pulled up to Evans Village – Apartments & Spa on Belhambra Road, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The name suggests something quaint and village-like, but this is Johannesburg we’re talking about – and this four-star spot actually delivers on that promise in ways I didn’t anticipate.

What struck me immediately was how they’ve managed to create this sort of residential enclave feel right in the middle of the city. You know what I mean? It’s not trying to be a flashy hotel tower, but rather feels like you’re staying in an upscale neighborhood where you just happen to have access to a really good spa. The apartments themselves are genuinely spacious – I’m talking proper living areas where you can actually spread out your stuff without everything looking like a disaster zone after day one. The kitchenettes are functional too, which honestly saved me a fortune since Joburg’s restaurant scene, while fantastic, can add up quickly if you’re staying for more than a few days.

The spa component is where things get interesting, and I mean that in the best way. It’s not massive, but they’ve clearly put thought into making it feel like a proper retreat. I spent a good chunk of one afternoon there, and the treatment rooms have this calming, almost residential feel – like you’re getting pampered at a friend’s really nice house rather than in some sterile hotel facility. The staff actually remembers your name, which sounds small but makes a real difference when you’re trying to unwind. Location-wise, you’re well-positioned without being in the absolute chaos of the city center – I found I could walk to decent restaurants and cafés without dealing with the intensity of places like Sandton City, but you’re still close enough to get anywhere you need to go without spending half your day in traffic (well, as much as anyone can avoid Joburg traffic, anyway). Parking was straightforward, which anyone who’s tried to navigate some of the older Johannesburg hotels will appreciate. The 9.1 rating makes sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does offer is done really well. Perfect for longer stays or if you want that apartment-style flexibility with hotel-level service.

  Loved the entire place ! Everything was just up to standard. Exceeding our expectations. The hosts were super nice and helpful. Even the spa was luxurious offering the complementary massages which was indeed needed at the time of arrival. SUPER SUPER AWESOME PLACE.
