Fafi’s Place Overview

You know what really surprised me about Fafi’s Place? I was expecting just another generic guesthouse tucked away on some quiet suburban street, but this four-star spot on Disa Drive actually has some serious personality. The whole vibe feels more like staying at a friend’s incredibly well-appointed home rather than a hotel – which honestly makes sense given the name.

The location in Johannesburg is one of those insider secrets that locals probably don’t want me sharing. You’re close enough to everything that matters without dealing with the chaos of the city center, and I mean everything – good restaurants within walking distance, easy access to the main routes without the traffic noise keeping you up at night. The street itself is lined with jacarandas that create this gorgeous purple canopy during blooming season (if you’re planning a visit between September and November, you’ll see what I mean). Parking was never an issue, which anyone who’s spent time navigating Joburg will tell you is basically a minor miracle.

What really sets this place apart though is the attention to detail that you don’t usually get at this price point. The rooms have this lived-in comfort – not sterile hotel perfect, but actually cozy in a way that makes you want to hang out rather than just crash for the night. I spent way too much time on their outdoor areas just because they’ve created these little pockets where you can actually hear birds instead of traffic. The staff genuinely seems to care about what you’re up to during your stay, not in an intrusive way, but like they actually want you to discover the good stuff about their city. They pointed me toward a local coffee spot that I never would have found otherwise and definitely didn’t charge tourist prices. The breakfast situation is solid too – fresh, local ingredients without trying too hard to be fancy about it. I’ll be honest, the WiFi can get a bit spotty during peak hours, and the hot water takes a minute to kick in, but these feel like minor trade-offs when everything else works so well. With an 8.3 rating, it’s clear other people are picking up on the same vibe I did.

Reviews of Fafi’s Place

  • Very Good – Claudine from Greece – April 13, 2025 (8/10)

The staff was absolutely amazing. Really attentive and flexible

What could be improved: The toilet seat was broken, the shower doesn't drain very well so it's always full, the remote control for the TV is missing buttons.

  • Good – Elethu from South Africa – March 26, 2025 (7/10)

What could be improved: If he can try to separate the noise from the house..I struggled with my meetings. Mornings you can hear the kids even after school and one of the kitchen pipes is also loud you can hear when someone is using the sink.

  • Peaceful Stay with Great Hospitality – Ncum from South Africa – March 15, 2025 (8/10)

The room is beautifully nestled with a separate entrance, offering both privacy and comfort. It was well equipped, making your stay very comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, perfect for a relaxing stay. The host and staff were pleasant and accommodating, ensuring we had everything we needed.

    What could be improved: N/A

  • Good – Katleho from South Africa – June 8, 2024 (7/10)

The area was lovely, very clean and comfortable room. Everything I needed was there. The hosts made sure I got a heater on request as it was cold.

What could be improved: The gate operation was a bit of a hassle. I had to walk to the gate open it using a key pad attached to it, then walk to the car, drive out, then get out of the car again to close the gate using the keypad again. I suggest a remote for the gate will be the solution. Especially at night or when it's raining.

  • Wonderful – Moroka from South Africa – May 19, 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: The small opening from the bathroom is a no no as there is not much privacy when using the bathroom.
    The bathroom was too small.

  • Well kept, Peaceful Accommodation – Kea from South Africa – March 18, 2024 (9/10)

Safe area, private, clean, well maintained, looks like the pictures

What could be improved: A small ice tray in the freezer would have been nice in this heat.

  • Wonderful – Sarah-anne from South Africa – March 4, 2024 (9/10)

  • Wonderful – Oelie from South Africa – February 17, 2024 (9/10)
