I stumbled across FRIDAS Haven on Nicolyn Avenue during one of those restless weekend drives through Randburg, and honestly, I’m so glad I did. This four-star boutique spot sits quietly in a leafy residential pocket that most people drive right past on their way to the busier parts of town – which is actually perfect if you’re looking for somewhere that feels more like staying at a stylish friend’s place than another cookie-cutter hotel.

The thing that struck me immediately was how they’ve managed to blend this sophisticated, almost gallery-like aesthetic with genuine warmth. You know how some places try so hard to be trendy that they forget to be welcoming? Not here. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting the details right, and I mean the small stuff that actually matters – like remembering your coffee preference or suggesting which local restaurants are worth the walk. The rooms themselves are thoughtfully designed without being precious about it, with these gorgeous local art pieces that actually complement the space rather than just filling wall space. I particularly loved the way natural light filters through in the afternoons, creating these lovely pockets of warmth that make you want to just settle in with a book.

What really sets this place apart though – and maybe why they’re pulling those impressive 9.4 ratings – is how well they understand Johannesburg travelers. They’ve got the parking situation sorted (trust me, this matters more than you think in this area), the wifi actually works reliably throughout the building, and they seem to have figured out that perfect balance between being helpful and not hovering. The neighborhood itself is one of those gems that locals know but visitors often miss – quiet enough for proper rest but close enough to Randburg’s main attractions that you’re not spending your whole day in traffic. I noticed they keep the common areas just busy enough to feel alive without being chaotic, and there’s something really appealing about how the place hums along efficiently without feeling sterile. If you’re the type who appreciates thoughtful hospitality over flashy amenities, and you want to experience Johannesburg from somewhere that feels authentically connected to the city rather than isolated from it, this is definitely worth considering.

  Was travelling and thought to take a pause. And this was a perfect spot for that.
  Great communication between the owner and her assistant. Smooth check in and check out.
  Great breakfast( freshly squeezed juice).
  I was convinced by the reviews and I’d say they were spot on from the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and well thought out extras one need..
  
  For runners, there’s 5-7km route from the gate, super quiet and in the evenings neighbourhoods also run around the blocks…
  
  Will definitely consider it on my next pause.

  I stayed for one night and was pleasantly surprised by how spacious and well-equipped the cottage was, especially considering the price. There were more than enough plug points for the whole family to charge all our devices, which was really convenient. The kitchen was impressively stocked—not with food, but with all the essentials like pots, pans, cutlery, and utensils. Everything was clean and functional, making it easy to feel at home. A great budget-friendly stopover, especially for single travelers or families Highly recommended.

  The host goes above board to make you feel welcome and cared for. Like ABOVE. Milk and water in the fridge, rusks, Dove soap in the shower. 4 extra tissue rolls. It was amazing. The way little details were catered for. A very nice DIY breakfast. WiFi available.
  The location is easy to access and safe. A parking space was available.
  Staff are super friendly and accommodating.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing. The only downside for some may be the absence of a TV, but it's compensated by everything else.
