Honestly, Frnch on 2nd – Sandton caught me off guard in the best possible way. I mean, you walk up to this sleek building on 2nd Street and think you’re in for another generic business hotel experience – but there’s actually something quite charming about how they’ve managed to blend that French boutique vibe with Johannesburg’s energy. The whole place has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “look at me” but definitely makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special.

What really struck me was how they’ve nailed the details without going overboard. The lobby has these gorgeous leather accents and warm lighting that somehow makes you forget you’re in the heart of Sandton’s business district. I stayed here during a particularly hectic work trip, and you know what? The staff actually remembered my coffee order by day two – that’s the kind of personal touch you don’t expect from a four-star property in such a busy area. The rooms are beautifully designed with clean lines and French-inspired touches that feel authentic rather than themed. My room faced the street, and while 2nd Street can get busy during rush hour, the windows are solid – I slept like a baby even on weeknights.

Location-wise, you’re really in the thick of things here. Nelson Mandela Square is literally a five-minute walk, which is perfect if you need to grab dinner or do some shopping after meetings. But here’s what I loved most – the hotel sits just far enough from the main Sandton City chaos that you can actually breathe a bit. Parking was surprisingly easy (they have secure underground spots), and getting to OR Tambo is straightforward via the Gautrain – the Sandton station is close enough that you won’t break a sweat dragging luggage. The breakfast spread is honestly impressive for a hotel this size, with proper French pastries that actually taste like they know what they’re doing. I found myself lingering over coffee in their little breakfast area way longer than I planned, watching the morning hustle of Johannesburg wake up outside. It’s one of those places where the 8.8 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there – not flashy enough to be a 9, but definitely doing everything right to earn that solid reputation.
