This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. Located right in the heart of Grayston Square, you’re literally surrounded by some of the best shopping and dining that Sandton has to offer, which means you can ditch the rental car for most of your evening plans. The four-star setup here feels more polished than typical Hampton properties – I mean, the lobby has this sleek, modern vibe that doesn’t scream “chain hotel” the moment you walk in.

What really won me over was how they’ve nailed the little things that business travelers (and honestly, leisure folks too) actually care about. The rooms are surprisingly spacious for Johannesburg standards, and I loved that they’ve got proper blackout curtains – trust me, you’ll appreciate this when you’re dealing with jet lag or trying to sleep in on weekends. The Wi-Fi is actually fast enough to handle video calls without that awkward freezing mid-sentence thing, and there are plenty of outlets positioned where you’d actually want to plug things in. I stayed on the seventh floor and barely heard any street noise, which is pretty impressive considering you’re right on Grayston Drive where traffic can get pretty hectic during rush hour.

The breakfast situation deserves a mention too – it’s not just the usual sad continental spread. They’ve got hot options that actually taste like someone cares about the food, plus local touches that show they understand they’re not just serving international business travelers. The staff genuinely seems to know the area well, which came in handy when I needed dinner recommendations that weren’t just the obvious chain restaurants downstairs. Speaking of location, being this close to Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square means you can easily walk to serious shopping or grab dinner without dealing with Johannesburg traffic, but you’re also just a quick Gautrain ride from the airport or OR Tambo. The parking garage is secure and well-lit – something I definitely don’t take for granted in this part of town. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but for the price point and that 8.1 rating, this Hampton delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.

  What could be improved: Our stay included breakfast, but to our surprise, none of the coffee machines were working at the restaurant. When we asked about it, the staff bluntly told us that no coffee was available and that we would have to make do with the one provided in the rooms. This was quite disappointing, especially given that breakfast was supposed to be part of the package.

  What could be improved: The menu isn't available online, I suggest they put it in a QR code poster in the room so that guests can scan and have their choice of food or drinks comfortably unlike now as you have to go physically at the front desk for it.
