I mean, Highland Road isn’t exactly the main drag everyone talks about when they’re planning their Johannesburg trip, but that’s precisely why this place works so well. It’s tucked away in this quiet residential pocket where you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of taxi hooting – which, if you’ve spent any time in Joburg, you’ll know is pretty remarkable.

The whole four-star thing doesn’t really capture what makes this spot special, honestly. Sure, the rooms are lovely and well-appointed (the linens are genuinely nice, not that scratchy hotel stuff), but it’s more about the vibe they’ve created. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing – I watched the front desk guy give another guest incredibly detailed directions to some obscure art gallery in Maboneng, complete with parking tips and which streets to avoid. That’s the kind of local knowledge you just can’t fake. The common areas have this lived-in feeling without being shabby, you know? Lots of books scattered around, decent coffee that’s actually hot, and these big windows that let in all that highveld light without the glare.

What really sold me on the place was how quiet it gets at night. I’m someone who usually travels with earplugs because hotels always seem to be next to construction sites or busy intersections, but here you can actually sleep with the windows cracked open. The neighborhood itself is one of those established Kensington areas where people walk their dogs and know their neighbors – there’s something reassuring about falling asleep to the sound of normal residential life instead of sirens and late-night revelers. Parking is straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven around central Joburg will appreciate. The only minor thing I’d mention is that you’ll want to grab dinner elsewhere if you’re looking for variety – their restaurant is perfectly fine but limited, and honestly, you’re close enough to some fantastic local spots that it’d be a shame not to explore. I actually ended up at this incredible Ethiopian place about ten minutes away that the concierge recommended, and it turned out to be one of those meals you remember for months.

  The house is good. There is enough space for work or stay.
  
  What could be improved: The house was dirty and cleaned as we were waiting and not entirely cleaned. This delayed our check in and we had cancel our other guests since we booked for work and we ultimately decided to check out on the same day since it was no longer serving the purpose.
  
  The parking is a disaster and too small. The positioning of the gate, locstion of the parking and the size of the parking will not serve you if your car does not have cameras or sensors.
