Hurlingham House Guest House Overview
You know what really struck me about Hurlingham House Guest House when I first pulled up to 41 Iona Drive? It’s tucked away in this quiet residential pocket of Johannesburg that feels completely removed from the city’s usual intensity, but you’re actually still really well-connected to everything. I mean, the Hurlingham area has this almost suburban charm that’s pretty rare to find in a guest house – most places either stick you right in the thick of things or way out in the middle of nowhere.
The house itself has that warm, lived-in feeling that makes you forget you’re staying somewhere temporary. The rooms are honestly more spacious than I expected, and there’s this attention to detail that you don’t always get with four-star guest houses – like actually decent water pressure in the shower (trust me, this matters more than you think when you’re dealing with Joburg’s sometimes temperamental plumbing). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. You’re on a residential street, so once evening settles in, it’s just peaceful. No traffic noise, no late-night party sounds drifting up from bars – just the kind of quiet that actually lets you sleep properly.
The breakfast situation is solid too, though it’s not one of those elaborate buffet spreads. It’s more like what you’d hope a well-organized friend would put together if you were staying at their place – fresh, thoughtful, and enough variety to keep you happy without being overwhelming. The staff genuinely seems to know the area well, which is huge if you’re trying to figure out the best way to get around Johannesburg or need recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. Parking is straightforward, which honestly can’t be overstated in a city where finding a safe spot for your car sometimes feels like a minor victory. The whole setup just works – it’s the kind of place where you can tell someone actually thought about what travelers really need, rather than just checking boxes on some hospitality checklist. If you’re looking for something that feels more personal than a big hotel but still gives you that sense of being well looked after, this place gets it right.

It was clean and stuff were good
What could be improved: A guest house fully booked but turns off the geyser at night, which is very annoying and unacceptable.

What could be improved: Nothing.Great place to stay at, with an even nicer host – Msiziwakhe from South Africa – June 13, 2025 (10/10)
Nice secured location, cozy, with a seating area that has a couch, a working air conditioner and a working TV. Also, Provides tea and cereal (I arrived too late to be able to buy myself any meal).
Bathroom and toilet hidden from the bathroom, soo you can’t see your partner going about their business😂
