I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Hyatt House Johannesburg, Sandton, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like another business hotel in the middle of Sandton’s concrete jungle. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in all the right ways. The location on Ann Crescent puts you right in the thick of things without the chaos of the main Sandton drag, and there’s something refreshing about a four-star property that doesn’t try too hard to impress you the moment you walk in.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to create this sort of residential feel – I mean, these aren’t your typical cramped hotel rooms. The suites actually feel like apartments, which makes sense since this is technically an extended-stay property, but honestly, even if you’re just staying a couple nights, you’ll appreciate having a proper kitchenette and separate living area. The staff here gets it too – they’re not hovering over you like you’re helpless, but they’re genuinely helpful when you need them. I remember asking about getting to Nelson Mandela Square (it’s literally a five-minute walk, by the way), and the front desk guy didn’t just give me directions – he actually warned me about the construction detour that was happening that week.

The neighborhood itself is pretty much peak Johannesburg business district energy during the day, but evenings get surprisingly quiet once the office crowds head home. If you’re here for work, you’re golden – Sandton City Centre is right there, and getting to OR Tambo isn’t the nightmare it can be from other parts of the city. But here’s what I really appreciated: the soundproofing is solid, so even though you’re in the middle of everything, you can actually sleep. The gym is small but has everything you need (though it gets busy around 7 AM if you’re the early workout type), and that little pool area on the roof is perfect for decompressing after a long day of meetings or sightseeing. Actually, speaking of sightseeing – while Sandton isn’t exactly tourist central, being based here makes day trips to Soweto or the Cradle of Humankind way more manageable than staying in the city center with all that traffic.

  We were upgraded to a suite and this was a comfortable size and space. If we had not been upgraded to a suite, the room would have been small.

  Modern with sufficient gym equipment. The staff was super helpful and an absolute pleasure. From my first call Qenehelo was a superstar. I had no water in my complex and she allowed me an early check in at 12 which set a positive tone before my arrival. She also suggested the chicken club sandwich which was divine.   The property was very modern and aesthetic. I enjoyed that there was a cafe and restaurant on the premises. The gym and the gym equipment was of a high quality and it was nice that there were showers and toilets at the gym as well. The staff was very helpful and attentive. The quality of the breakfast each morning was very good.
  
  What could be improved: Due to the amount of people coming in and out, early hours of the morning between 3-6am was very noisy on the ground floor. This could have been my personal experience only. The breakfast could have started a bit early, especially for those of us who need to be at meetings or at the office before 8am. I would have also liked more water in the room.
