Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name ITS STILL COZY, And YOUR GONNA LIKE IT!! MABONENG, I thought someone was having a laugh with me. But you know what? They weren’t kidding around. This little three-star spot tucked into the Craftmanship building on Main Street actually delivers on that bold promise, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The thing about Maboneng is that it’s this incredible urban renewal area in Johannesburg where old industrial buildings have been transformed into these creative hubs – and this hotel fits right into that vibe. You’re staying in what used to be part of a larger industrial complex, so there’s this raw, authentic feel with exposed brick and high ceilings that you just can’t fake. The rooms themselves are surprisingly cozy (hence the name, I guess), with thoughtful touches like local artwork and decent Wi-Fi that actually works when you need to upload those Instagram shots. I stayed on the third floor and honestly, the street noise wasn’t too bad – just the occasional taxi hooting, but that’s Joburg for you.

What really sold me on this place was its location in the heart of Maboneng’s creative district. You can literally walk downstairs and you’re surrounded by galleries, quirky cafes, and that weekend market everyone talks about. The Arts on Main building is practically next door, and if you’re into the local music scene, you’ll find yourself stumbling into some pretty decent venues just by wandering around the block. The staff – and this matters more than you’d think – actually know the area well enough to point you toward the good stuff, not just the tourist traps. They told me about this Ethiopian place around the corner that I never would have found otherwise. Parking can be a bit tricky during the day (it’s a busy creative district after all), but there’s decent security in the area, especially compared to other parts of the city center. I wouldn’t call it luxury by any stretch, but for what you’re paying, it’s solid value with character – something that’s getting harder to find these days. Plus, that 8.6 rating isn’t just for show; people genuinely seem to leave here happy.

  The place had a bad smell of cement there is only the door you can open for fresh air to come in.if you want to go out or in have to walk to reception before they open the gate for you.

  The host was responsive and helpful. Clean and neat place. Good value for money. It had everything I needed for my stay. Netflix, wifi, argh enjoyed it all. Such a peaceful weekend I had. Definitely coming back.

  What could be improved: On and off and up and down with the securities, who were not aware of my arrival according to them, they ask me so many things like room number etc. before the can assist me, up until i called the manager at midnight to sort this out.
