First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Jade apartments on Lower Road, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a four-star apartment hotel in Johannesburg. But you know what? This place surprised me in the best way. The building has this clean, modern look that doesn’t scream “tourist trap,” and there’s something refreshingly understated about it. The fact that there’s parking right on site — and it’s free — already put me in a good mood because anyone who’s driven around Sandton knows what a headache finding parking can be.

Location & Neighborhood

Sandton is basically Johannesburg’s answer to Manhattan, and Jade apartments sits right in the thick of it without being overwhelming. I mean, you’re walking distance from Nelson Mandela Square and all those upscale shopping centers, but the street itself feels more residential and calm. What really struck me is how couples seem to absolutely love this spot — apparently they rate the location over 9 out of 10, and I can see why. You’ve got that perfect balance where you can easily grab dinner at fancy places or just duck into a local café without dealing with the chaos of being right on the main drag.

The Apartment Experience

The room I stayed in was actually more like a proper apartment, which makes sense given the name. There’s a full kitchen setup that’s genuinely useful — not one of those tiny hotel kitchenettes where you can barely make toast. I found myself cooking breakfast a couple mornings because, honestly, it felt more natural than always eating out. The space has this contemporary South African design that doesn’t try too hard, and the windows let in great light during the day. Everything feels well-maintained without being sterile, if that makes sense.

Daily Life & Amenities

What I appreciated most was how the place functions for both short stays and longer visits. The staff knows the neighborhood well — they pointed me toward this excellent local restaurant that I never would’ve found on my own. The building itself runs smoothly; elevators work, WiFi is solid, and there’s a general sense that things are taken care of without being fussy about it. I noticed other guests seemed relaxed and settled in, not rushed like you often see at traditional hotels.

Why Guests Love It

After spending several days here, I get why this place consistently rates so well with visitors. It’s that rare combination of being centrally located but not feeling like you’re camping out in the middle of a business district. The apartment-style setup gives you flexibility — you can live a bit more normally instead of being stuck with hotel food and schedules. Plus, recent guests have been rating the location over 9 out of 10, which honestly reflects what I experienced. You’re close enough to everything that matters in Sandton, but you’ve got your own space to retreat to when the city gets overwhelming.

  The location of the property. You’re able to access all of the major shops or tourist attractions. If not, you can always take the Gautrain which is only a few minutes away.
  Another positive is the cleanliness of the property.
  
  What could be improved: I experienced some maintenance issues and notified the staff about the necessary repairs on the property.

  The apartment was clean and host quite responsive. The rooms are spacious and since my daughter and l prefer taking a shower when in a hurry, l loved the fact that both bathrooms had showers so did not have to wait for each other
  
  What could be improved: The fact that l could not use the safe. It was locked and host didn't know the password. Also did not like the fact that the apartment was not serviced during our stay.

  Really lovely place, elegant simplicity. Love the amenities to make life easy. Nice for a long stay and a full family.

  What could be improved: Indoor heating was always on. Some form of Air-conditioning could be put in to help cool the place, but we had the windows open and it was OK.
