The name means “welcome” in Yoruba, and honestly, that warmth hits you the moment you step inside. It’s one of those places where the staff actually remembers your name after the first day — I mean, when’s the last time that happened at a chain hotel? The building itself has this understated elegance that feels authentically South African without trying too hard.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about the location in Johannesburg — you’re positioned perfectly without being stuck in the tourist bubble. Recent guests have been rating the spot a solid 9.3, and I get why. You’re close enough to the action but far enough away that you can actually get some peace. The fact that there’s free private parking on site is honestly a game-changer in this city. Trust me, you don’t want to be circling blocks looking for a safe spot to leave your car in Joburg.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this perfect balance — modern amenities but with touches that reminded you where you are. The beds are seriously comfortable (I’m talking sleep-until-noon comfortable), and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not bumping elbows with your travel partner. What struck me most was the attention to detail — quality linens, good water pressure, and windows that actually open if you want some fresh air. It’s those little things that separate a decent stay from a memorable one.

Dining & Social Spaces

The restaurant serves up this interesting fusion that works better than it sounds on paper. You know what impressed me? They source locally but don’t make a big show about it — it just tastes fresh and authentic. The common areas have this relaxed vibe where you might end up chatting with other travelers, but it never feels forced or overly social if that’s not your thing. There’s something about the way they’ve designed the spaces that encourages natural interaction.

  The owner was very cordial and professional, the home was clean, comfortable and very well decorated – the owners even provided an extra bed for a last minute fifth member of our group for an additional fee which was well above and beyond what I could have hoped for. I greatly enjoyed my time there and will definitely be returning should I need to visit Joberg again.
  
  What could be improved: The Stove was a bit tricky to work with as the plates seem to be linked to the wrong dials, but it was an easily solvable problem once we realized the switchups.

  What could be improved: The front of the wall fence facing the Hilary Street is not electrified. However, the owner assured us of perfect security and that she had never recorded any security issues in the last 14 years. We became comfortable after being assured. The rear door locking system needs to be worked on as well as the locking system for the main bedroom door.
