I actually appreciated that the building doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The lobby’s clean and functional, check-in was surprisingly smooth (the staff seemed to actually know what they were doing), and honestly, the whole vibe feels more like a well-run apartment building than a hotel trying too hard to impress.

What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night, which is sort of rare for Jo’burg. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re exactly what a 7.5 rating suggests – perfectly decent without any major surprises. The beds are comfortable enough, the wifi actually works (always a gamble in South Africa), and there’s proper hot water pressure in the shower. I mean, these sound like basic things, but you’d be surprised how often hotels mess up the fundamentals. The windows are decent-sized, so you get good natural light during the day, though the view is mostly other buildings – nothing scenic, but it doesn’t feel claustrophobic either. One small thing that bothered me was the air conditioning unit, which makes this low humming sound that takes a night or two to get used to. Not a dealbreaker, just one of those details that reminds you this isn’t a luxury property.

The location works really well if you’re in town for business or just need a reliable base. You’re not walking distance to the major tourist spots, but getting around Jo’burg usually means driving or using ride services anyway. There’s decent parking (which is actually a big deal here), and the area feels safe enough during daylight hours. I noticed quite a few other business travelers staying here – the kind of people who prioritize reliability over Instagram-worthy amenities. The breakfast situation is pretty basic, but there are some solid local coffee shops within a few blocks if you want something more substantial. Overall, KeyNest Living 01 does exactly what it promises without any pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what makes a stay memorable in the right way.

Travelers should plan their Johannesburg visit at least two months ahead for major events like Heritage Day and Freedom Day celebrations, ensuring the best experiences and prime access to popular districts and attractions.

• Prima appartement op top locatie – Maaike from South Africa – September 1, 2025 (7/10)

  De locatie van het appartement is top, naast de Rosebank Mall en Gautrain. Het appartement is netjes en schoon en veilig, maar heeft niet heel veel extra faciliteiten.
  
  What could be improved: Communicatie met de host was lastig. Ik had geen incheck informatie gekregen en bij de receptie konden ze me initieel niet helpen. Ook was de host in de veronderstelling dat ik een dag eerder zou uitchecken waardoor de schoonmaak om 7 uur 's ochtends bij mij binnen stond op de dag dat ik wel zou uitchecken.

  The space is beautiful, it's quite a comfortable stay. They also have all the cookery and crockery one would need to prepare a meal.
