I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to KwaMagogo Villa, Chartwell on Second Road, I wasn’t sure what to expect. You know how some places look great online but then you arrive and it’s… well, not quite what you pictured? This wasn’t one of those times. The villa sits in this quiet residential pocket of Chartwell that feels worlds away from the hustle of central Johannesburg, even though you’re really not that far out.

What struck me immediately was how thoughtfully this four-star property balances that boutique villa feel with actual comfort – and I mean the kind of comfort that matters when you’ve been traveling all day. The rooms have this lived-in elegance that doesn’t feel stuffy or overdone. Actually, the whole place has character in a way that’s hard to fake – you can tell someone put real thought into the details instead of just ordering everything from a hotel supply catalog. The staff genuinely seem to know the area too, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re trying to figure out where to grab dinner or whether it’s worth the drive to visit specific neighborhoods in the city.

The location thing is interesting because Chartwell itself is one of those suburbs that locals know but doesn’t always make it onto tourist maps. It’s properly residential, so you get that authentic South African suburban experience without feeling completely cut off from everything. Parking was never an issue (which, if you’ve spent any time in Joburg, you’ll appreciate), and the area feels safe for walking around during the day. I found myself actually enjoying the quiet evenings there – you can hear birds instead of traffic, which was exactly what I needed after a few hectic days exploring the city center. The 9.5 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed there a night or two. It’s not trying to be flashy or impress you with unnecessary extras, but everything they do, they do really well. I mean, when you find a place that gets the basics right and then adds those thoughtful touches that show they actually care about your experience – well, that’s when you know you’ve found somewhere worth recommending to people you actually like.

  What could be improved: Remove the tree no the right hand side when you drive out of the. gate. One can not see the on-coming traffic making it difficult to turn.

  The property is located in the close proximity to any amenities one needed for an over the weekend stay,even if it was unfamiliar territory for the visitor
  
  What could be improved: visitors toilets upstairs,just before entering the kitchen seem to be hardly used,therefore it was reversing the foul smells from the septic tank into the house.The waste pipes should be installed in a way such that it doesnt breath back the smell

  The property is amazing, very much exclusive. Well maintained, staff was very friendly and the owner very accomodative… simply to say she's people's person.its a wonderful home away from home, fully equipped kitchen, sitting, dining, and historic books to read. And the pool is protected. There's a chess, game boards wow 👌.
  
  What could be improved: All was fine. However, there was a slight water 💧 shortage….. however, the owner was on hand to supply enough drinking water. Maybe they just have to check the waterflow when both bathrooms/ showers are in use at the very same time. Besides that, ohhh, a wonderful place. I think the staff must inform guests about the floor mats that are placed behind the doors…. the mats must be visible.

  The place is very well done, 5 star facilities and its warm and homely. The home has a very rich history
  
  What could be improved: Hot water running out and poor Wi-fi. Would recommend a booster. We couldn’t take our meetings
