The garden they’ve named themselves after isn’t some grand botanical showpiece, but it’s genuinely lovely in that lived-in South African way, with indigenous plants that actually thrive here rather than struggling exotic ones. I mean, there’s something to be said for a place that works with its environment instead of fighting it. The units themselves have this comfortable, unfussy vibe – clean lines, decent furniture that doesn’t look like it came from a hotel catalog, and honestly, better Wi-Fi than some of the flashier places I’ve stayed in Johannesburg. The kitchenettes are properly equipped too, which matters if you’re staying more than a night or two and don’t want to eat out every meal.

What really struck me was how the staff actually seemed to care about the place – not in that overly rehearsed way, but like they genuinely wanted you to have a good experience. The woman at reception gave me specific directions to a local coffee shop that turned out to be fantastic (and definitely not touristy), plus some solid advice about parking in the area. Speaking of which, parking here is straightforward and secure, which anyone who’s driven around Joburg will appreciate. The location works really well if you need to be in the northern suburbs but want to avoid the chaos of Sandton – you’re close enough to everything without being in the thick of it. I found myself walking to a couple of decent restaurants in the evening, something I wasn’t sure I’d be comfortable doing, but the neighborhood has that settled, safe feeling. The only minor gripe I had was that the hot water takes a moment to get going in the mornings, but honestly, that’s pretty standard for this type of accommodation. What impressed me most was the overall value – you’re getting way more than what you’d expect for the price point, and in a city where accommodation can be hit or miss, that’s worth its weight in gold.
