Leighwood Lodge Overview
You know what struck me first about Leighwood Lodge? Walking up to this place on 2nd Avenue, it doesn’t scream “hotel” at you – it feels more like you’re visiting someone’s incredibly well-appointed home in one of Johannesburg’s nicer neighborhoods. Parktown North has this lovely residential vibe that’s honestly refreshing after dealing with the usual city center hustle, and this four-star lodge fits right into that quieter rhythm.
I mean, the moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the details here. The common areas have that lived-in elegance – not the sterile perfection you get at chain hotels, but genuine warmth with quality furniture that looks like it was chosen piece by piece. The staff genuinely remembers your name (not just because they’re reading it off a screen), and I noticed they know the local area inside and out. When I asked about getting to Rosebank, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward a taxi – he actually explained the best routes depending on traffic time and mentioned which streets to avoid during rush hour.
What really won me over, though, was how thoughtfully everything’s been put together. The rooms are spacious without feeling cavernous, and there’s this attention to comfort that you don’t always find – good lighting for reading, outlets where you actually need them, and honestly, one of the better shower experiences I’ve had in Johannesburg. The lodge sits in a quieter pocket of Randburg, so you’re not dealing with constant street noise, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. Parktown North gives you easy access to the main business areas without feeling like you’re stuck in a concrete jungle, and there’s something to be said for being able to take an actual walk around the neighborhood in the evening. The area has character – tree-lined streets, local cafes that aren’t trying too hard, that sort of thing. I found myself choosing to spend time at the lodge rather than just crash there between activities, which says something. The communal spaces invite you to linger, maybe chat with other guests, or just sit with a coffee and plan your next move. It’s got that rare combination of feeling upscale without being pretentious – professional service without the stuffiness that sometimes comes with higher-end places. For what it’s worth, with a 9.5 rating, I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.

We were greeted for our late check-in and were made to feel welcome right away. Leigh is a born host—so very helpful and accommodating. She even made us a dinner reservation, dropped us off there and insisted on picking us up after dinner. Our room was large, comfortable and very clean. Would stay there again no question and will certainly recommend to anyone traveling to Johannesburg.
