Leopard Tree Cottage Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Leopard Tree Cottage on the corner of 2nd Street and 4th Avenue in Linden, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The name had me picturing some rustic safari lodge, but this place is actually something completely different and, well, better than I imagined. It’s tucked into this lovely residential pocket of Johannesburg that feels worlds away from the city chaos, even though you’re still totally connected to everything.

The moment you step inside, you get why this four-star spot has such devoted fans. There’s this wonderful sense that someone actually lives here – or at least designed it like a real home rather than a sterile hotel. The rooms have character, you know? Real art on the walls, not those generic prints you see everywhere, and the kind of lighting that actually makes you look good in the bathroom mirror (trust me on this one). I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms and loved how quiet it was – Linden’s already pretty peaceful, but you really don’t get much street noise here. The beds are seriously comfortable too, which matters more than people admit when they’re choosing where to stay.

What really won me over was how the staff treats you like you’re staying with friends rather than just processing you through. They know the neighborhood inside and out – not just the obvious tourist spots, but where to grab the best coffee on 4th Avenue, which restaurants are worth the walk, that sort of local intel that actually makes a difference. The breakfast setup is lovely (they do this fresh fruit thing that’s simple but perfect), and honestly, the whole vibe just feels right. You’re close enough to Rosebank and Sandton to get anywhere you need to go, but you’re staying somewhere with actual personality. I mean, there are plenty of fancy chain hotels around Johannesburg, but this place has something those miss – it feels authentic. The only tiny thing I’d mention is that parking can get a bit tight when they’re full, but it’s never been a real problem, just something to keep in mind if you’re driving a massive SUV or something. I keep coming back here when I’m in town, which probably tells you everything you need to know.

Early Johannesburg trip booking requires advance planning during peak seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s museums, world-class wine tours, and authentic South African cultural experiences.

  • Exceptional – Petrus1968 from South Africa – August 24, 2025 (10/10)

  • Exceptional accommodation in beautiful Linden, Johannesburg – Arlene from Canada – June 29, 2025 (10/10)

This has been an awesome experience. The accommodation is organized with maximum focus on comfort for business travellers or holiday makers alike. For someone who loves structure and detail, it felt like therapy to me. There is a dedicated work desk with a power outlet for those who want to work on laptop computers. The bed is super comfortable with top notch bedding. All of very high quality. TV comes with NetFlix, There is a gas heater if you need some extra warmth. And all of the appliances you could wish for very tastefully installed. A washing machine, dish washer, toaster, micro wave, a Nespresso Coffee Machine with capsules, At first I was wondering how accommodation could earn 10 out of 10 points. But I cannot find anything to fault. The accommodation is very private with a separate entrance. It has its own parking inside the gate, and a little private garden with genuine lush green grass, tall trees and bird life that is pretty amazing.
