Lilian Lofts Hotel & Spa Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Lilian Lofts Hotel & Spa on Lillian Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name made it sound like some trendy converted warehouse, but this four-star spot actually surprised me in all the right ways. You know what struck me first? How quiet it feels despite being right in the heart of Johannesburg. I mean, you’re still in the city – you can hear the distant hum of traffic – but there’s this almost residential calm that you don’t get at those big chain hotels near Sandton.
The lofts themselves are honestly pretty clever. They’ve got this industrial-chic thing going without being too try-hard about it – exposed brick here and there, but still comfortable enough that you’re not sleeping on a concrete slab. The spa is where they really shine though. I spent way too much money there, but after a long day dealing with Johannesburg’s traffic (and trust me, it’s as bad as everyone says), those treatments felt necessary rather than indulgent. The massage therapists actually know what they’re doing – not just going through the motions like at some places. What I appreciated was how they managed to create this zen atmosphere while still acknowledging they’re in an urban setting. The treatment rooms have these small windows that frame little bits of the city, so you’re not pretending you’re in some countryside retreat.
Parking was easier than I expected, which honestly made my whole stay better. Nothing kills the vibe like circling blocks looking for a spot. The staff seems to actually live in Johannesburg – they gave me real recommendations, not just the obvious tourist traps. One guy at the front desk told me about this incredible Ethiopian place about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me – it’s not perfect (the Wi-Fi was a bit spotty in my room, and breakfast could use some work), but there’s something genuinely thoughtful about how they’ve put this place together. It feels like someone actually cared about creating a space where you’d want to spend time, not just crash for the night. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between boutique charm and reliable comfort in Johannesburg, this place delivers without making a big show of it.
Johannesburg’s attractions showcase the perfect blend of historical significance and modern urban culture, with many featuring panoramic city views and authentic experiences overlooking the vibrant South African landscape.

What could be improved: The call to prayer at night woke up us but we were able to sleep again because the hôtel is very silentPeace of mind the heart of Johannesburg! – Kamogelo from South Africa – July 28, 2025 (8/10)
Stayed in the loft apartment. It is beautiful and spacious. There’s privacy on the premises and the portions from the restaurant are generous. Would like to experience once of their suites!
What could be improved: The parking situation was a bit of a concern; had to park the vehicle outside the property overnight. Even though the security was on duty, I didn’t really have peace of mind as Johannesburg’s quite busy and somewhat unsafe – hopefully there can be another solution to the parking situation.Good value for money – Ofentse from South Africa – June 21, 2025 (7/10)
Space enough for family, next to spurs, has fully functional restaurant

What could be improved: Noise at night. I wasn't sure if it was coming from inside the property or outside, but it was loud and annoying.Wonderful – Ayaaz from Lesotho – June 5, 2025 (9/10)
