Live, work and play in the Maboneng loft Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Live, work and play in the Maboneng loft, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The name itself sort of gives away that this isn’t your typical hotel experience, and you know what? That’s exactly why it works so well in Johannesburg’s most vibrant creative district.
This three-star spot sits right on Albrecht Street, which means you’re literally in the heart of Maboneng – and I mean that in the best possible way. The area can get pretty lively, especially on weekends when the Market on Main is buzzing with locals and tourists hunting for vintage finds and street food. The loft itself actually captures that whole live-work-play vibe perfectly – it’s got this industrial-meets-homey feel that somehow makes sense once you’re there. The exposed brick walls and high ceilings give you that authentic warehouse conversion experience, but they’ve managed to make it comfortable rather than cold. I mean, you can actually picture yourself hanging out here for more than just a night or two.
What really struck me about this place is how it fits into the neighborhood rather than trying to stand apart from it. You’ll hear the sounds of the city – some traffic, music from nearby venues, general urban life – but it never felt overwhelming when I stayed there. The windows are decent quality, so you can still get your sleep. Parking was surprisingly straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven around Joburg will appreciate. The whole Maboneng precinct has really transformed over the years, and staying here gives you front-row seats to see how creative energy can completely revitalize an area. You’re walking distance from some genuinely good restaurants (honestly, the food scene here has gotten so much better), galleries that showcase local artists you won’t find anywhere else, and that general sense of being somewhere that’s actually happening rather than just existing for tourists. The 7.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be luxury, but it delivers on its promise of letting you experience Johannesburg like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through.

Reviews of Live, work and play in the Maboneng loft
Pleasant – Sahand from Netherlands – September 8, 2025 (6/10)
The studio was so clean and of course safe knowing the location.
What could be improved: The music's noise from pubs through whole night, if you cannot sleep with street noise and loud music through nights, ignore this place.Good – Welcome from South Africa – August 21, 2025 (7/10)
Great – Michelle🤍 from South Africa – August 18, 2025 (10/10)
Cleanness
What could be improved: NothingGood – Sinakhokonke from South Africa – July 20, 2025 (7/10)
What could be improved: The tv remote doesn’t work
Mooie wijk, slechte geluidsisolatie – Helena from Netherlands – May 14, 2025 (5/10)
What could be improved: Dat er betaald kan worden voor vroege check in/ out is top.
Just okay , the host could have tidied up a bit more and made sure we at least got proper bedding. – Lesedi from South Africa – April 2, 2025 (5/10)
What could be improved: The bedding did not seem to have been washed , had a bad smell to it
The place did not have toilet paper
The place looked like someone had slept there and left right before we came , things were laying around and it was a mess.Exceptional – Mchunu from South Africa – March 3, 2025 (10/10)
The place is clean, secure and really nice. The host was always available to assist, he went above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable.

My entire stay was absolutely enjoyable from start to finish. The place was spotless, peaceful, and beautifully maintain – Nicole from South Africa – February 3, 2025 (10/10)
The place was very nice and clean and everything was working properly in the apartment. It is impeccably clean, peaceful, and well-maintained, this place is an absolute gem. From the moment you step in, you’ll notice the fresh, crisp air and the spotless interiors that make you feel instantly at home. Every corner is thoughtfully designed, with attention to detail that enhances both comfort and aesthetics.
The cleanliness is top-notch floors gleam, linens smell fresh, and even the smallest details, like neatly arranged toiletries and dust-free surfaces, are taken care of.
What could be improved: A microwave will come very much in handy .
