Look, I’ll be honest – Long Stays- OR Tambo Eastgate isn’t going to win any architectural awards, but you know what? It absolutely nails what it’s supposed to do. This three-star extended stay property sits right in the Eastgate area of Johannesburg, and if you’re looking for a solid base that won’t drain your wallet, it’s actually pretty perfect.

The first thing that struck me when I pulled up to Arena Close was how quiet it is for being so close to everything. I mean, you’re literally minutes from OR Tambo – I timed it at about 15 minutes in normal traffic – but you don’t get that constant airplane drone that haunts so many airport hotels. The Eastgate Shopping Centre is basically next door, which honestly became my lifesaver for groceries and late-night snack runs. The rooms themselves feel more like small apartments than typical hotel spaces, with proper kitchenettes that actually work (the stovetop gets hot, the fridge gets cold – trust me, I’ve stayed places where this wasn’t guaranteed).

What really sold me on this place was the attention to the details that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than just a night or two. The wifi is solid throughout – I was running video calls from my room without issues, and the housekeeping staff seemed to understand that long-stay guests don’t want their entire setup disrupted every single day. The front desk team knows their stuff too; when I needed directions to the Johannesburg CBD, they didn’t just point me toward the highway – they actually warned me about the traffic patterns and suggested the best times to travel. The pool area is nothing fancy, but it’s clean and gets decent sun in the afternoons, plus there are enough loungers that I never felt like I was fighting for space. Parking is covered and secure, which matters more than you might think in this part of town – I never once worried about my rental car sitting out there overnight.

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t a place where you’re going to get pampered or impressed by fancy lobby art. The décor is functional, the breakfast is basic but fresh, and the gym is small but has the essentials. But if you’re using Johannesburg as a base for business or exploring the region, and you want somewhere reliable that feels more like a temporary home than a hotel room, it really delivers. The location puts you close enough to the airport for early flights without the premium prices of the airport hotels, and you’re well-positioned for day trips to Pretoria or the Cradle of Humankind. I actually extended my stay twice because it just… worked. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

The apartment is in the heart of the city, close to all the major attractions and public transportation. Lumka was an outstanding host, always quick to respond and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. The setting was incredibly tranquil, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, and the dedicated workspace made it easy to get work done.
