The location on Frederick Drive is actually brilliant if you know the area – you’re tucked away in this quiet residential pocket of Northcliff, but honestly, the sunset views they’re advertising aren’t just marketing fluff. I mean, Johannesburg sunsets hit different when you’re elevated like this, and from the pool area (which is surprisingly spacious for a boutique place), you get this sweeping view that makes you forget you’re in the middle of Gauteng. The solar setup is legit too – I noticed because the power stayed rock solid even when load shedding hit the neighborhood. Little details like that matter when you’re trying to get work done, and the WiFi actually holds up in all the common areas and rooms I checked.

What really sold me on this place was how they’ve managed to feel like a proper retreat without being pretentious about it. The rooms have this modern but comfortable vibe – not trying too hard to be Instagram-perfect, just genuinely nice spaces where you can spread out and breathe. The pool becomes the social hub in the evenings, which I actually enjoyed more than I expected. You’ll meet interesting people there, mostly business travelers and couples who’ve discovered this spot isn’t your typical chain hotel experience. Parking is secure and easy (always a relief in Joburg), and the staff seem to genuinely know the area well – they pointed me toward a fantastic local coffee spot just down the road that I never would’ve found otherwise. The 8.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s not perfect, but it gets the important stuff right and adds those little touches that make you want to come back next time you’re in the area.

Travelers should plan their Johannesburg visit at least two months ahead for major events like Heritage Day and Freedom Day celebrations, ensuring the best experiences and prime access to popular districts and attractions.

  Michelle the host is very organised and communicates well. She is also very personable and will offer useful advice for your stay. The property is outstanding with excellent security and a quite stunning view. You'll need to use Uber or rent a car to get around Johannesburg but we had no problems.
