I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name Luxury Penthouse In The Heart Of Sandton, I rolled my eyes a bit. I mean, everyone calls their place “luxury” these days, right? But after staying here on Katherine Street, I actually get why they went with that name. This four-star spot really does feel more like crashing at a wealthy friend’s apartment than staying in a typical hotel, which is exactly what you want when you’re dealing with the chaos that can be Sandton.

The location is honestly pretty perfect if you’re here for business or want to be in the thick of things. You’re literally walking distance from Sandton City (which, let’s face it, you’ll probably end up at anyway), and getting to the Gautrain station is a breeze – super handy if you need to pop over to the airport or into Johannesburg proper. What I really appreciated, though, was how quiet it stays despite being so central. The penthouse setup means you’re above most of the street noise, and the Katherine Street side is way calmer than some of the main drags in the area. I actually slept really well, which doesn’t always happen when I’m staying somewhere this urban.

The space itself has that modern Sandton vibe – you know, sleek lines, floor-to-ceiling windows, all that good stuff – but it doesn’t feel cold or sterile like some of these newer developments can. There’s actual personality in the design choices, and honestly, the kitchen setup is better than what I have at home. I ended up cooking a few meals because the local Woolworths is right there, and sometimes you just want to eat something that isn’t from a restaurant, you know? The views are pretty spectacular too, especially at sunset when you can see across the city – though I’ll warn you that Sandton’s skyline changes so fast you might spot three new buildings under construction just during your stay. Parking was straightforward (always a relief in this part of town), and the whole check-in process was refreshingly simple. The 7.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the most luxurious place in Africa, but it delivers on what it promises without any weird surprises or disappointments. If you’re the type who likes having your own space but still wants to be where everything’s happening, this place gets it right.
