I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Marriott Executive Apartments Johannesburg, Melrose Arch, I thought it might be just another corporate housing situation. But walking into this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this sleek, contemporary feel without being cold, and you can tell right away that this five-star property takes itself seriously without the stuffiness you sometimes get at luxury hotels.

What really struck me about staying here is how it feels more like having your own upscale apartment than being stuck in a hotel room. The suites are genuinely spacious – I mean, you’ve got a full kitchen with proper appliances, not those tiny hotel fridges that barely fit a sandwich. The living areas actually have room to spread out, which is brilliant if you’re here for an extended stay or traveling with family. The beds are fantastic too, and honestly, the blackout curtains are some of the best I’ve encountered – crucial when you’re dealing with jet lag. I noticed the soundproofing is really well done, which matters because Johannesburg can get pretty lively, especially around the Melrose Arch area.

Speaking of location, this is where the hotel really shines. Melrose Arch itself is this walkable, upscale district that feels almost European in its layout – tree-lined streets, outdoor cafes, boutique shopping. You’re literally steps away from some excellent restaurants (the Italian place downstairs is actually quite good), and there’s a Woolworths nearby for groceries if you want to use that kitchen. What I really appreciated is that you can walk around the immediate area safely, which isn’t something you can say about every part of Joburg, let’s be real. The hotel arranges airport transfers, and the drive takes about 45 minutes depending on traffic – the staff is pretty good about timing this right. Parking is secure and included, which is a relief if you’re renting a car. The gym is well-equipped and rarely crowded, and there’s a decent pool area, though it can get busy during weekends when local events are happening in Melrose Arch. The service feels more personal than what you’d expect from a big chain – the concierge team actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward things that aren’t just tourist traps. My only minor gripe would be that the Wi-Fi occasionally gets sluggish during peak hours, but it’s generally reliable for work calls and streaming. Overall, this place gets the balance right between luxury and livability, especially if you need more space than a typical hotel room offers.

  What could be improved: Checking in was a bit of a struggle. They could not find rooms for our booking. We seated in the reception area for more than two hours which was not ideal after a long trip with a toddler who was very tired.

  This is a beautiful hotel located in Melrose Arch, the best area, on my point of view in JHB. The hotel has apartments and rooms, and for some reason the apartments were much cheaper than the rooms, which is why I decided to stay there. The apartment (with one bedroom, living room and nice kitchenet) is fully furnished, with all one may need to stay and live independently from the hotel. The entire apartment is large and has ample space, two tvs, etc. Really a lovely place to stay.
  
  What could be improved: The negatives: the tv sound (both in the living and bedroom) cuts from time to time, not sure why; hand shower in the apartment I stayed (806) is much better than the main head shower, hot water in the sink takes forever and the way the doors from the shower stall opens (outwards) makes it difficult to step on the floor towel.
