I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to MINT Express Melrose View on Junction Road, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like another business hotel. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe that feels fresh without trying too hard, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see guests walk in. I mean, that’s rarer than you’d think in Johannesburg these days.

What really won me over was the attention to detail throughout this four-star property. The rooms are spacious – and I’m talking actually spacious, not hotel-brochure spacious – with floor-to-ceiling windows that give you decent views of the surrounding area. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the air conditioning works like a dream, which honestly matters more than anything else during Joburg’s sweltering summer months. The bathrooms are modern with good water pressure, though the shower doors are a bit finicky – minor thing, but worth mentioning. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything stays, even when the hotel’s busy. You’re close enough to the action but far enough from the main road noise that you’ll actually get some sleep.

The breakfast spread is surprisingly good – they do a proper South African breakfast alongside continental options, and the coffee doesn’t taste like it came from a machine that’s been ignored for months. The location works really well if you’re doing business in the northern suburbs or need easy access to both Sandton and the airport. Junction Road connects you to everything without the headache of staying right in the thick of Sandton traffic. There’s decent parking (always a concern in this city), and I felt perfectly safe walking around the immediate area during the day. The hotel attracts a mix of business travelers and leisure guests, so there’s a nice energy without feeling like you’re stuck in corporate hotel limbo. Staff actually remember your name after a day or two, which sounds small but makes a real difference when you’re far from home. For the price point and what you get, this place delivers exactly what it promises – no nasty surprises, just solid comfort with some genuine South African hospitality thrown in.

  I liked the staff friendliness, the cleanliness of the place.

  What could be improved: The location on the maps was misleading because it sent me to the end of the street rather than the beginning of the street.

  The water in the bathroom does not run to the waste drain, it puddles up instead ( I think the slope is not done correctly)
