I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to MINT Express Sandton View on Arkwright Avenue, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty straightforward business hotel. But you know what? Sometimes those unassuming places end up surprising you in the best ways.

The thing about staying in Johannesburg is that location really matters, and this three-star spot gets it right. You’re smack in the middle of Sandton’s business district, which means you can actually walk to most of the major office buildings and shopping centers – no small feat in a city where everyone usually drives everywhere. I mean, the Sandton City mall is literally a few minutes on foot, and if you need to catch the Gautrain, the station’s close enough that you won’t break a sweat hauling your luggage. The rooms themselves are clean and functional – nothing fancy, but the beds are surprisingly comfortable and the air conditioning works well (trust me, you’ll appreciate that during Joburg’s hot summer afternoons). What I really liked was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re right in the thick of things. The soundproofing is better than you’d expect for a mid-range place.

The staff here actually seem to care, which honestly isn’t always a given. Check-in was smooth, and when I had questions about getting around the city, the front desk guy gave me proper local advice – not just the tourist handbook stuff. He steered me away from walking certain routes after dark and pointed me toward the better coffee spots nearby. Speaking of coffee, there’s a decent little café right in the lobby that opens early enough for business travelers but stays relaxed enough that you don’t feel rushed. The breakfast spread isn’t going to win any awards, but it covers the basics and the fruit is usually fresh. One thing to note – parking can get a bit tight during peak business hours since there are so many office workers in the area, but the hotel has its own spots and they’ve never turned me away. The elevator can be slow when there’s a conference group staying, but honestly, that’s pretty typical for hotels in this price range. What sets this place apart is that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not – it’s a solid, reliable base for exploring Sandton and the broader Johannesburg area, with staff who know the neighborhood and rates that won’t destroy your budget. If you’re here for business or just want to be centrally located without paying premium prices, it’s definitely worth considering.

  The apartment was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with almost everything you need for a longer stay. The staff were friendly, professional, and very helpful, which made a big difference to my stay. Close to Sandton.
  
  What could be improved: On check-in, the apartment unfortunately smelt of cigarettes, likely from a previous guest. I requested a deep clean and curtain wash, and the team handled it well by moving me to another apartment while they sorted it out and then moved me back. I really appreciated how quickly and efficiently they resolved the issue.
  
  The apartments don’t have “Do Not Disturb” or “Please Clean” door signs, which means you always have to speak with the housekeepers to confirm if you want cleaning or not, even on days you’d prefer not to be disturbed. Also, while the living room has a TV, it’s on the smaller side (32 inch) which isn’t ideal for relaxing and watching in the evenings but isn’t a deal breaker.

  Everything was great. I was a bit sceptical after reading a few negative comments but the hosts are really working hard to improve. We had a smooth check in, all the staff were very friendly. Our rooms were clean and the breakfast was so good. Very suitable for big groups.
