You know what struck me first about MINT Hotel 84 on Katherine? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there – it’s literally at 84 Katherine Street, and there’s something refreshingly clean and modern about the whole place that fits the “mint” vibe. I mean, sometimes hotel names are completely random, but this one gets it right.

The location in Sandown is honestly pretty sweet if you’re doing business in Johannesburg or just want to be close to Sandton without the crazy hustle. Katherine Street itself is fairly quiet, which I appreciated – you’re not dealing with the main road noise, but you can still walk to the Gautrain station in about ten minutes. The four-star rating feels spot-on; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but everything works well and the staff actually seems to care. I had this small issue with the room keycard on my second day, and the front desk sorted it out in like two minutes – no drama, no forms to fill out.

What really won me over was how they’ve thought about the little things. The rooms have these great blackout curtains (seriously important if you’re jet-lagged), and the air conditioning is quiet enough that you’ll actually sleep through the night. The bathroom setup is smart too – good water pressure, plenty of counter space for your stuff, and the lighting doesn’t make you look like a zombie in the morning. I stayed on the fourth floor and honestly didn’t hear much from neighboring rooms, which can be hit-or-miss with business hotels. The Wi-Fi is solid throughout the building, which matters if you’re trying to get work done or just want to stream something after a long day. There’s a decent restaurant downstairs, though I’d recommend exploring some of the local spots along Katherine Street – there’s this great Portuguese place about three blocks down that the concierge told me about. Parking is straightforward and secure, which takes one worry off your list if you’re driving around Johannesburg. The whole place has this relaxed professional vibe that works whether you’re there for meetings or just using it as a base to explore the area. With an 8.2 rating from other guests, it seems like most people have a similar experience – comfortable, reliable, and refreshingly uncomplicated.

  The staff were top shelf, very friendly and accommodating, absolutely the best part of my stay. Pool area was excellent as well, great for unwinding.
  Location was perfect, safe and close to all amenities and was even able to arrange pickup from here for all my local tours. Al in all, it's a solid 8 out of 10
  
  What could be improved: I felt the rooms could of been cleaner and Please Please, stop using whatever cleaner or deodorizer you use. It was unbearable and I had to air out the room. That is the reason I only asked for the room to be cleaned once and not daily.
