I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Mint Hotel Sandhurst on Sutherland Avenue, I wasn’t expecting much from this three-star property. The building’s got that clean, modern look that screams “business hotel,” but you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially when you’re staying in this part of Sandton.

The thing about this place is its location – you’re literally a stone’s throw from the Gautrain station, which means getting to OR Tambo or into central Johannesburg is actually painless. I mean, anyone who’s dealt with Joburg traffic knows that’s worth its weight in gold. The neighborhood itself is pretty quiet for Sandton standards, though you’ll still hear the occasional taxi hooting in the early morning hours. The rooms are what you’d expect – nothing fancy, but they’re clean and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. I stayed on the third floor and had a decent view of the residential area, which honestly was kind of nice after spending days in the chaos of the city center. The air conditioning works well (trust me, you’ll need it), and the Wi-Fi is solid enough for video calls, though it can get a bit sluggish during peak hours when everyone’s streaming.

What I really appreciated was the staff – they actually seem to care about what they’re doing, which isn’t something you can take for granted. The front desk guys know the area well and can point you toward decent restaurants within walking distance, or help you figure out the best route to wherever you’re heading next. There’s a small restaurant on-site that does a reasonable breakfast, nothing spectacular but it gets the job done if you’re in a hurry. Parking is secure and free, which again – if you know Sandton, you know that’s not a given. The hotel fills up with business travelers during the week, so it can feel a bit corporate Monday through Thursday, but weekends are much more relaxed. I actually found myself hanging out in the lobby area with a coffee more than once, just people-watching and planning my next moves. Look, this isn’t going to be the highlight of your South African adventure, but sometimes you just need a reliable base that won’t break the bank while you explore everything Johannesburg has to offer.

  The hotel/apartment was nice and relaxing, it's great for groups or small families and the staff offers exceptional services I haven't found anywhere else
  
  What could be improved: Certain aspects of the rooms could be refined and fixed up. Some drawers were damaged inside, tub had hairs in it (we hadn't used it) and the passage smelt very strongly of weed unfortunately Abit later in the night (visitors fault but I feel it should be monitored)

  Good value for money. Spacious. Great location.
  
  What could be improved: You need to control drunk and noisy guests otherwise it will be the end of your beautiful property. If people are drunk and noisy you must please please kick them out of the facility. Beef up security for this. Rooms are quite sound proof so if you hear noise it means someone is really going out of their way to be disruptive please kick them out.
