What really got me was the attention to detail: proper coffee makers (not those terrible pod things), quality linens that actually feel soft, and bathrooms with decent water pressure. You’d be surprised how rare that combination is, even at four-star places.

The location is honestly brilliant if you know Johannesburg at all. Victory Park sits right between Rosebank and Sandton, so you’re close to all the business districts and shopping areas, but you’re on this peaceful tree-lined avenue that feels almost suburban. There’s decent parking – always a concern in Joburg – and the security is solid without being over-the-top intimidating. The staff genuinely seem to care about the place, which shows in everything from how well-maintained the gardens are to how smoothly check-in goes. I stayed there during a busy conference season and honestly expected things to be a bit chaotic, but they handled everything perfectly. The breakfast is served in this lovely communal area that opens onto the garden, and while it’s not a massive buffet spread, everything they do serve is really well-executed – proper South African breakfast items alongside international options. Even their coffee is excellent, which matters more than you might think when you’re dealing with jet lag or early business meetings. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to hang around rather than just crash for the night, and in a city like Johannesburg where you’re often just looking for somewhere safe and convenient, that’s saying something.

  What we liked especially was the ease of communication with the host, who was very nice, responsive, and easygoing! We were very comfortable and slept like babies!
  
  What could be improved: The only thing that might improve the overall experience is the potential availability of the key for each person, for us it was nevertheless very easy to navigate and the host provided us with extra keys once he learned that we are on different schedules even though we are accomodated together 🙂

  Gardens are absolutely beautiful with stacks of birds flitting about the trees. The cottage was big and the bed was super comfortable. Owner was extremely helpful. Bonus that Delta Park is within walking distance which is great for runners and birders!
